Arrington De Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa
“Hot Head” [Captain Beefheart cover]
Arrington De Dionyso, maker of trans-utopian world music (who doesn’t make “trans-utopian world music” anyway?), went to Dub Narcotic to record a cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Hot Head” with Calvin Johnson. And it “slays.”
Matmos and Dan Deacon
The Odd Couple’s Uncontrollable Waves [Daytrotter session]
During MoogFest 2010, electronic duo and TMT favorite Matmos hit up Daytrotter with deft musicianship, superhuman intelligence, impeccable instincts, and… Dan Deacon? For one of two tracks, Deacon joins Matmos for an “improvisational set, with no structure or discussion on form or shape.” (Literally) Sounds right up our alley.
Check out this special Daytrotter set here.

Heidecker & Wood
Have you heard? Tim Heidecker & Davin Wood of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! are releasing an album “just for the schmaltzy comedy fun of it” (TMT News). JUST KIDDING. GOD.
Starting From Nowhere is due March 15 on Little Record Company.
On March 1, Rainbow Arabia are releasing their debut full-length Boys and Diamonds on Kompakt. On March 2, you’ll have been Rainbow Arabia’d.
“Devils Hearts Grow Gold”
La Sera, not to be confused with Lia Ices (oh, am I the only one who has been confusing the two?), are releasing a self-titled album on February 15 through Hardly Art. The band, if you must know, features Vivan Girls’ Katy Goodman. There, now your knowledge of La Sera is at least good enough for casual indie conversation.

“Phantoms & Fortune”
“Phantoms & Fortune” is off Bird Names’ forthcoming album Metabolism: A Salute to the Energy of the Sun. The album’s due March 8 on the fresh, new, so-far-really-awesome Northern-Spy Records. We loved their last album, Sings the Browns (released on Upset the Rhythm), so you know, we’ll probably enjoy this one, too.
