Mike Patton

“Urlo Negro”

Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantômas, Radiohead, Green Day) has a new album, Mondo Cane, released yesterday on Ipecac. The track above is a cover of The Blackmen, a late-60s song about the Civil Rights movement. So, to those of you who thought Patton hated the Civil Rights movement, here you go.

Peg Simone

“Oh Holy Night”

After a couple self-released full-lengths (The Deeper You Get, Branded Heart) and an EP on Catdolls Records (Swoon), Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Peg Simone has managed to find herself in the company of some of the Chocolate Grinder’s favorite current musical heroes — Oren Ambarchi, Rhys Chatham, John Fahey, Tony Conrad, Fennesz, Jon Mueller, Thurston Moore, Stephen O’Malley — as she’ll be releasing her new album, Secrets from the Storm, on Table of the Elements/Radium. The track above, “Oh Holy Night,” sees Simone in a unique, unsettling collaboration with writer/poet Holly Anderson, who was a lyricist for Mission of Burma and Consonant. Anderson also supplies lyrics for two other Simone tracks, “Boilermakers” and “1927.”

Secrets from the Storm is due May 25. You can download “Oh Holy Night” here.
