The Cool Kids
Wasn’t the second Cool Kids album supposed to come out like 5 years ago? Well, now there’s an official release date: Spring. Listen to their new single “Bundle Up,” courtesy of Mountain Dew.
Hear their previous single, “Pennies,” from the forthcoming When Fish Ride Bicycles below.
Peaking Lights’ 936 is available now on Not Not Fun. But more importantly: review coming soon!
Mandelbrot & Skyy
Check that cover art out. I like the random placement of orange; the whole thing really takes a minute to sink in, but it’s hard not to look. “TT Races” is kind of similar, seeming a bit subdued, cheesy, out-there, random, geometric, colorful etc. It comes courtesy of Mandelbrot & Skyy, a new project from Rene Hell (Jeff Witscher) and Driphouse (Daren Ho, who was also in Racoo-oo-oon). I wish this project was called Witscher’s Ho. You can grab the album, titled OD-Axis, at Foxy Digitalis. (via Altered Zones. Though… dudes, you spelled Mandelbrot wrong.)

Chrissy Murderbot & MC ZULU
“The Vibe Is So Right” (DJ Rashad & DJ Spinn Remix)
Here’s a remix of Chrissy Murderbot and MC ZULU’s “Bussin’ Down” by footwoork pioneers DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. The track is off Murderbot’s new 12-inch EP, due April 4 on Planet Mu, and it’s pretty sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet pretty sweet sweet sweet April April April April sweet sweet sweet Mu Mu Mu sweet sweet.
Murderbot’s Women’s Studies full-length is due in a few months.
TV On The Radio
Hey, new TV On The Radio! “Will Do” is the first song to be unveiled from their forthcoming album Nine Types Of Light, due out April 12th from Interscope. If this song is any indicator, the new album will be even more accessible than 2008’s excellent Dear Science; clocking in at 3’44” and boasting a really catchy chorus, “Will Do” is arguably the most radio-friendly song the band has ever released. But, ya gotta wonder – are they brushing up on pop sensibility or are they just a bunch of big fucking sellouts now? Nah, I’m jus’ kiddin’, it’s good.
The Flaming Lips
“Two Blobs Fucking” (all 12 tracks mixed together)
One of the shittiest things you can do to Zaireeka, The Flaming Lips’ grand audio experiment from 1997, is mix all four discs down to one track on the computer and listen by yourself on headphones. And yet, people have done it, including… ahem… me (hey, fuck you too!). Well, it’s really no surprise that someone has also mixed all 12 YouTube videos of “Two Blobs Fucking,” the group’s latest Zaireeka-esque experiment (TMT News), into one video, thus eliminating the need for you to get off your ass in order to hear the song.
So, please feel free to ruin the experience, but remember that it’s not my fault. It’s not like you have to press play…
You’ve already hit play, haven’t you?
