Hustlers like Evan P. Donohue gotta lead the masses still kicking around the rock-vibe/Beatles-sceners, and his pathway leads to the Stairway to Evan. Though, he’s conscious of this and the development in conveying voice and thought to listeners by-way of genuine and instinctual talent. And generally in the same way Elliott Smith minorly lyric’d his licks, Evan P. Donohue follows that same sort of bleak, bright shiny out-look, but involving a much more upbeat, rockier vibe to the instrumentation.
Even though I’m not exactly into music like Evan P. Donohue makes — as often as I probably should be, at least — I had a good Q&A (to be published on TMT soon) with the daddy of Stairway to Evan’s label home, and after hearing what he had to say about the direction of Illuminated Paths, it’s really interesting reflecting upon their massive discography. Like, it’s all about earnestness. Finding true contributors. Feeling the real momentum of discovery and helping those discover too. It’s massive. So the expansion I feel with Evan P, Donohue’s music is an interesting one, and one I’m willing to give a chance. You can too by giving Stairway to Evan a listen below:
