“Acids in The… Thin Razor, Attack Noise Hat, Linn”
Enjoy this sample track from the first side of Mark Fell’s Manitutshu, which you can pick up on double vinyl at Editions Mego. It’s interesting to hear Fell’s beats abstracted in this way, almost as if he’s manually resetting pre-programmed casio drums to create a chopped up, disorienting effect. Appropriately enough, as previously reported, the Manitutshu project came to fruition after Fell was hired to produce pre-set sounds for a new Native Instruments software synth. They note that none of the pre-sets were used in the final product.

“His Is the Ecstasy” (with Jim Jarmusch)
Jozef Van Wissem, the Dutch “sublime master of the lute,” has a new album, The Joy That Never Ends. Rather than going at it alone, Wissem is joined this time by Jeanne Madic on vocals and filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (Strange Than Paradise, Ghost Dog, The Limits of Control) on guitar/feedback. Whoa. The album’s out June 28 on Important.
Not content with having just released a Kickstarter-funded Kate Bush cover album on Crash Symbols/AMdiscs (while you’re at it, also check out his cover of The Cranberries’ “Dreams”), Aria Jalali of SF “shitgaze” project Railcars has decided to get his pseudo-raga on as Gypsy Treasures. Look for Buried Goods on cassette, out now on Not Not Fun. It’s an appropriately titled release, given that the underlying tracks were inadvertently rediscovered while on a Railcars tour in the form of old loops on Jalali’s Boss pedal.
Check out the six-and-a-half-minute video for “Four Horsemen” above. It’s a good example of Gypsy Treasure’s psychedelic stupor. Think Sun City Bishops with Gocher presiding over stereotypes of Middle Eastern/Eastern European origin. Okay, now stop thinking that and just listen.
“Let Bebongs Be Bebongs, Idiot”
Foot Village, who lovingly see The End of the Fucking World, are releasing a split 12-inch with Malian band Super Khoumeissa. Their side consists of one unbelievably epic 16-minute fury o’ drums+shouts, which means this is one very special SoundCloud embed. Look for it on limited-edition vinyl and digitally July 11 from the one, the only FatCat.
It only took two and half years, but Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks has emerged, clothed and all, with a new album entitled Mirror Traffic. The album, out August 23 on Matador, was produced by Glenn Beck or something.
After nearly 40 years, Ilitch, a 70s experimental/Krautrock project headed by French musician Thierry Müller, will finally be releasing Un Jour Come Tant d’antes. The album, one of the group’s earliest, would have remained unreleased had Beta-lactam Ring (home to Nurse with Wound, irr. app. (ext.), Nadja, Daniel Menche) not decided to pick it up. Think Ash Ra, Schnitzler, Heldon, Schulze. The album’s out late July in a custom-made book-bound gatefold sleeve and later on limited-to-300 double vinyl.
