Pigeons
“Dead Echo”

Pigeons, the Bronx duo of Wednesday Knudsen and Clark Griffin, have a new mouthful of an album called They Sweetheartstammers. RIYL: Pigeons. Look for it November 8 on Soft Abuse (represent!). In unrelated news, anyone else see that Jaguar ad on the site?

AIDS Wolf

“Le Cercle Des Ratés”

Montreal’s AIDS Wolf have a new one, readers (and presumably writers). It’s called Ma vie banale avant-garde, and it’s out October 4 on Lovepump United. While the band could easily sit around and count their royalty checks for the rest of the year, they’re choosing to tour later that month with Henry and Hazel Slaughter. Check them out rehearsing one of the album’s tracks, “Le Cercle Des Ratés.”

White Hills

“Paradise”

New York’s White Hills must fondly remember the days of carefree late-60s go-go dancing if their video for “Paradise” is any indication. Taken from H-p1, their latest album out now on Thrill Jockey, the track is a blistering space-rock dirge that wouldn’t be out of place on a Krautrock and kosmische music mixtape, yet the video somewhat lightens the weight of the jam, referencing the era when the Beat turned millions of mild-mannered children into thrusting, heaving, flailing music fiends. Heavy.

R/S (Rehberg / Schmickler)

“USA”

R/S is Peter Rehberg, founder of the Editions Mego label, and Marcus Schmickler, mastermind behind the Pluramon project. They have a new LP out on PAN which documents several improvised live outings from 2009. These sounds could be classified under harsh noise, but I don’t want to sound like a little prick by making that claim outright, so I’ll just say that the level of interplay and variation here is far beyond what most noise-makers get away with these days. Check out the preview above.

Zs

“33~”

Zs, still coming off their high from topping our 2010 year-end list (just kidding, we suck), have just signed a multi-release deal with Brooklyn-based label Northern-Spy. Expect some box sets and solo releases in the coming months, but for now, the label has confirmed the release of a double 7-inch entitled “33.” It’s out November 8. Check out one of its tracks, “33~,” streaming above.

Ryoji Ikeda

+/-

My cat’s going nuts right now. Just thought you’d like to know. Just kidding. It’s because I’m listening to this album preview of Ryoji Ikeda’s +/-, which is seeing reissue on the Touch label. The album ends with a piercing high frequency tone that slowly drifts out of the human range of hearing. Well, that’s bullshit, I want to hear the entire album! On headphones or bigger speakers most of Ikeda’s work takes on a strange physical quality, with a vast range of frequencies inhabiting interwoven electronic rhythms. Obviously there are other people out there who like losing their hearing, because this is the fourth reissue of +/-, placing Ikeda one reissue behind Pink Floyd as most reissued artist of all time.
