Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
“Tigers”

Stephen Malkmus, the Kemialliset Ystävät of indie rock, has another track to share. This one’s called “Tigers,” definitely the coolest cat in the Felidae family.

Carol Kleyn

“Blackbird”

Next Tuesday, Drag City will reissue Carol Kleyn’s Love Has Made Me Stronger, a 1976 album that was originally sold directly from Kleyn and only on tour. Somehow, someway, her voice and harp skills have survived through 35 years of political and social bullshit (I’m in one of those moods) and has landed on the desk of Mr. Drag City himself. Finally: worldwide distribution.

FOOT (Thurston Moore, Jim Dunbar, Don Fleming)

“live @ Flywheel - Easthampton, MA 09.15.2001”

PHI-PHENOMENA, an annual festival whose goal was to have 10 bands perform within one hour, went down in New York (1996, 1998), Boston (1997), Minneapolis (1999), Los Angeles (2000), and Miami (2001). In September 2001, PHI-PHENOMENA ON WHEELS took the show on the road, as touring members traveled the country together in an RV and met up with local acts along the way. On September 15, the tour stopped by the Flywheel Arts Collective in East Hampton, MA, where Foot (Thurston Moore, Jim Dunbar, and Don Fleming) performed inside a Volvo using the car’s engine, horn, and radio as instruments. Hanging in the car with them were J Mascis and Tom Verlaine, as well as Jim O’Rourke, who played a solo on the car’s roof with a balance ball.

If you’d like to read more about PHI-PHENOMENA ON WHEELS 2001, Blastitude kept a diary here.

DOOM/STARKS (DOOM and Ghostface Killah)

“Victory Laps (Madvillainz Remix)”

It’s about bleeping fucking time. The long-in-the-making collaboration between DOOM and Ghostface Killah, rumored since 2004-ish, is finally seeing the light of day. Well, maybe. At the very least, we have a new song to listen to until an album announcement is made (if one is made at all). The track, released under the name DOOM/STARKS — could also be DoomStarks or DOOMSTARKS — is called “Victory Laps,” and it comes from a cassette that Nature Sounds released over the weekend. While it would’ve been nice to hear the original version (you can hear that version on iTunes July 26 or on 12-inch picture disc August 30), what we get here, a remix by “Madvillainz,” is certainly nothing to whine about.

And hey, according to Nature Sounds’ Twitter, Rosenberg Radio and Hot 97 will be playing a new DOOM/STARKS “joint” at midnight. We’re not sure if they’ll spin the remix, the original, or an entirely new song, but I can’t wait to find out tomorrow morning after a good night’s rest. (via One Thirty BPM)
