It seems as if the reinterpreted 2000’s R&B tracks thing is still going strong. SUPERMARKET! of Bristol’s Young Echo mixes pretty straightforward vocals from Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, Ciara, Brandy, Justin Timberlake, & Beyonce with some heavenly, machinal synths and minimal, repetitive percussion. The end result lets the vocals shine, which, at least on the tracks used, were the elements that are remembered over the original production. This loose yet mathematical new production almost feels like the British answer to some of the tracks on Giant Claw’s DARKWEB, though the interest in SUPERMARKET! is more about the one to one relationship between vocal and production, rather than Giant Claw’s vaporwave-like cutting and pasting of many different elements.
