♫♪  Children of Pop - “Jealous Lover”

Welp, it took about seventeen years, but someone’s finally come along and written a worthy follow-up to the (presumably) undisputed best house-inflected pop jam of all time, “She Drives Me Crazy.”

That someone’s name is Chase DeMaster—the Houston-based, acid house/experimental-pop mastermind working under the moniker Children of Pop. And that someone’s jam is a sinful/spooky/sexy confection of experimental acid-house pop called “Jealous Lover.”

Said jam (as well as its accompanying video clip—a Windows ‘95 hodgepodge of warble-y VHS nostalgia) is being unleashed today as the newest single from ” DeMaster’s sophmore album, What Does 69 Mean?, which apparently started life as a collection of songs that Demaster intended to send to the likes of Drake, Solange, Beyonce, and Madonna; but the results were “too rad, and he kept all of them for himself.”

The resulting radness is due out on May 6 via Frenchkiss/The Orchard imprint #veryjazzed (which he also owns and runs himself). The album was written, recorded, produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered in DeMaster’s house; specifically “in what would be the area where people eat, kind of near the kitchen, a.k.a. the dining room, but not as fancy as, say, a ‘Dining Room.’” And it “questions what it means to be in love or to have really great sex […] or maybe getting them confused.”

But yo, before any of us make the mistake of THINKING too much about all this shit, let’s just watch the clip down below and enjoy that special, sexy shamelessness that is rightfully the highlight of any worthy slice of lite-dance-pop whether it comes from 1989 or 2016.
