♫♪  L CON - “How Much Shall We Bet?”

Toronto’s Lisa Conway is always stepping it up, be it as the lead singer of SOCAN Songwriting Prize-nominated pop-noir darlings Del Bel or under her own moniker as the stylized L CON. While Del Bel is set to take another big step forward in 2017 with their third album, appropriately titled III, Conway is still showing us the depth of her most recent solo album, Moon Milk. Having dropped in late 2016 via her own co-run Wildlife Sanctuary Sound Recordings, Moon Milk contained a dozen dynamic synth-pop tracks which took their names and inspiration from the twelve ’60s sci-fi stories collected in Cosmicomics by Italian author Italo Calvino.

The freshly premiered video for “How Much Shall We Bet?” expands on its theme, one that doesn’t exactly look positively on the future of human evolution. Directed and animated by Chantale Renee at Grand Channion Animation, the stop-motion video follows a sad little androgynous creature, with a snout reminiscent of Cyril Sneer’s, as he runs out his days performing innocuous tasks like reading the paper, brushing his teeth, tuning in his TV set, and consuming food and drink while Conway’s vocal refrain seems to question if he is happy (and we can easily guess the answer). The visual supports the aural so fantastically, it is as if both were created with the other in mind. One wishes for an entire video album to be produced this way, but regardless of what the future may hold, we will always have “How Much Shall We Bet?”

Bask in the joy and sorrow for yourself below.

And if you happen to be in the Toronto area, L CON has a couple of shows coming up:
04/01 - Toronto, ON - Feast in the East w/ Myriam Gendron + Sandro Perri
05/26 - Toronto, ON - Burdock w/ James Irwin (James Irwin Album Release)
