Oakland five-piece conscious-punk group Naked Lights recently signed to Castle Face Records, and are here to present their video/single “Hedges” off the new album On Nature out January 29. Directed by Japhy Riddle, “Hedges” outlines the various visions burnt into listeners as Naked Lights sears a musical language that is beyond lyrics. Of course, the authoritative vocals by Aurora Crispin are something that draws an ear one-way or another, the rest of Naked Lights crew swirls a twister of velocity that shapes their lingo. A base guitar that seems to be on the lamb, but at a fast-pace stroll into a jog, back into a face-pace stroll, and definitely looking suspicious while keeping a low-profile. Dualing guitars moaning and biting at each other like a couple that is in the middle of an entertaining fight to outsiders, with an edge of sexy that’s keeping measure with the base and vocals like the whole tiff was a shame, but still stepping on each others toes for vengeance. However, the drumming is what really harmonizes with the vocals, as it builds a sweaty and yearning similar to the energy thrusting an aura from the singer. And as all these visuals are flickering through the viewers head, so are the sounds, both pairing with and taring from each other ad nauseum throughout “Hedges.” So grip the Naked Lights’ newest album On Nature out January 29 on Castle Face Records and enjoy the video:
