♫♪  PAIDEIA - “Liaison”

I know, I know: you always feel crazy for even thinking this, so you never really dared to express it out loud to anyone, but… you know how sometimes you kinda legitimately can’t decide whether to listen to Simon and Garfunkel or LCD Soundsystem?

Boom. Problem solved. No more shame: PAIDEIA, baby. It’s the bedroom-pop dance-folk brainchild of Charlie Mischer, a jazz-trained drummer hailing from Brooklyn (by way of L.A.). He’s already dropped the first single, “Restless Child” (a “bumbling syncopation of metallic keys and bouncy xylophones,” according to Noisey), off his debut and self-titled EP, which he’s self-releasing on May 20.

But today, he’s generously dropping another new tune from the EP on us called “Liaison,” which, in Mischer’s own words, ” is the most traditional ‘pop’ song on the EP and is intended to be both sad and dance driven with a laid back vibe.” Boom, again. Just like that, you’ve got another scratch for your weirdly-specific “folk-y electronica”itch (Hooray, no more reluctantly resorting to listening to Soul Coughing for you!), and I’ve got the opportunity to demonstrate that I’m just as good as anyone else on the internet is at writing pithy descriptions of new PAIDEIA tracks. In fact, here I go; check me out:

“Liaison” by PAIDEIA a warm, analog bubble bath of lush pads, gurgling bass lines, and sweet, choral vocoders that’s as difficult to stop LISTENING TO as it is to spell. You’ll never have to make embarrassing, private playlists of James Taylor and Caribou ever again!

I think that’s pretty solid, personally. But, you know what, why don’t you check out the tune down below and judge for yourself?
