MJMJ Records hit me up recently about how they had a season-changer of a release by PERSONA LA AVE x BARAKA entitled ONE coming out August 11. I hadn’t listened to it immediately, and a fudge in my e-mail to the Choco staff left more jokes about my editor-ship, than anyone wanting to pick it up, became the mode of operation. Days later, MJMJ Records is like “Sup?” I took an ear-gander at the singles collection off ONE, and PERSONA LA AVE x BARAKA certainly made something for me to cope with the soon-to-be cool weather change, for sure.
But in the best way possible, ONE will help chilling the rest of this summer THE FUCK outside. Marked by woozy, hazed production work that takes flight like the early sun-setting, warm synth are paired to the still-heated (moistureless) weather, trickling key-notes from the sky like flecks of cold air, whisking lobes on the way home, and PERSONA LA AVE x BARAKA is sitting —butt-in-lap— shotgun, opening the sun roof. This shit ain’t over. I ain’t gotta go to school. I been working all summer in this heat. Stoked to get the second half popping, thanks to MJMJ Records.
