♫♪  Sigha - “Porcelain”

If one of the key pleasures of techno is repetition — not just spinning enough of a groove to move to, but that catharsis of feeling the beat gradually, finally start to change — James “Sigha” Shaw is a master at testing its limits. The London-bred/Berlin-based producer has built his sound by meticulously, ritualistically stretching rhythm to its edge, and on his sophomore full-length, Metabolism, he expands this impulse to a new, epic place.

Having previously worked with such labels as Avian and Blueprint, Sigha is now following up his two previous singles with his first album for Belgium’s Token Records. Four sides long, Metabolism feels consciously “big” — the echo, the bass, everything is totally blown-up, further living up to its title by transforming this raw material into pure energy. Heady enough to get lost in, but still beat-heavy enough to actually dance to, Shaw’s dense sound design is probably best experienced through the clearest sound system in the most cavernous club possible. [note: it’s also good on headphones]

Tiny Mix Tapes is happy to premiere the track “Porcelain,” available to stream right here. Metabolism will be available February 24 from Token.
