♫♪  Soft Vision - “Walpurgisnacht”

I received a digital copy of Soft Vision’s newest EP (out October 20 on Hi-Definition) and listened to it back-to-back-to-back. This sorta music is typically NOT what I listen to, but I get the odd sense that Soft Vision doesn’t listen to the sorts of music they make. At first, the EP starts off way more commercial-pop than my interests appreciate, though the striking harmonies both Bradley Barr and Kelly Winchester front are EXACTLY my interest. And I do listen to a lot of synthetic-wave-ish sorta musings — especially from what Night People fronts — thus “Walpurgisnacht” is up my alley. “Which alley?” you ask…

“Walpurgisnacht” is the sorta alley that is luxuriously lit by the moon, but also a bit damp and grimy, while noticeably inviting, as the smells from city stores waft a fusion perfume/cologne, fresh linens and cottons and silks, steamed milk, and a hint of car fumes. This isn’t a well-traveled alley, but “Walpurgisnacht” is more like a scenic route for the senses. As if a hooded figured were approaching you from the other road, only to hear shaded face mumble, “Great night out.” Glimmering still off that damp spots scattered on bricks and cement and iron is the moon hanging high, making “Walpurgisnacht” appear as if it were being presented on a game show, and twinkles spark out every corner. Yet, in your pursuit to get through and to the other side of the alley, if figure you time is best spent going home and ordering Soft Vision’s Self Titled EP on Hi-Definition — which is a sub-label of Acoustic Division — out October 20.
