“The Seven Storey Mountain”
A couple years back, Nate Wooley released The Seven Storey Mountain with David Grubbs (Gastr del Sol, Squirrel Bait) and improv extraordinaire Paul Lytton. TMT reviewer Elliott Sharp gave it 4/5. This year, our mammoth trumpeter returns with the same idea — “tape manipulation, long forms with simple written musical directions, an attempt to reach some sort of musical ecstaticism” — but performed with different artists: none other than bald-headed beauty Chris Corsano on drums and C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core) on violin. The album is due June 28 on Important. Check out an excerpt of the album streaming above.

Jaime Fennelly (Peeesseye, Phantom Limb + Bison, etc.) has gone solo on that ass. His new project is titled Mind Over Mirrors, and it features him playing a manipulated Indian harmonium, all recorded to tape for maximum crunch. The album’s called The Voice Rolling, and it’s due soon on Digitalis.

Wu Tang ft. RZA
“Only the Rugged Survive”
Since Wu Tang is now synonymous with crusty white people loving Wu Tang, here is new Wu Tang (featuring RZA). It sounds like Robert Diggs phoned this one in – in a literal sense, his voice is mid-range heavy, almost lo-fi below the contrasting soul beat. A new Wu Tang album is coming, titled Wu-Tang Legendary Weapons, which consists of remaining members rapping over music provided by Brooklyn R&B band The Revelations.
