“Someday”

You haven’t streamed “Someday” until you’ve streamed it through YouTube. Unless of course you streamed the audio via the Chocolate Grinder in January. Smartass.

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl)

“Jardin du Luxembourg”

When not playing fucked-up music (with the likes of Vincent Gallo and Thurston Moore) or dating hot girls, Sean Lennon is actually releasing music with hot girls. Not only have Lennon and his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl formed a new band called The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (a.k.a. The GOASTT), but just yesterday the duo released a new single, “Jardin du Luxembourg” b/w “Comic Strip” (a re-imagining of Serge Gainbsbourg and Briggitte Bardot’s 1967 recording), on their own label Chimera Music. It’s no Into the Sun (an awesome album, in my opinion), but it’s unmistakably Lennon.

Castanets

“Some Kind of Fool” [new song live]

Castanets, the project of all-around pervert Raymond Raposa, recorded a live session with Terror Eyes recently. “Some Kind of Fool” is a new track, so check it out. (Kidding about the pervert thing.)

Chocolate Grinder Mix 34

“We Invented The Remix, Internet, & Mix Tape”

Regardless of the fact that Tiny Mix Tapes did not actually invent any of these things (and neither did Puff Daddy nor Al Gore), they are all fantastic concepts, greatly impacting everyday life. Since you are streaming/downloading this mix as we speak, this edition of the Chocolate Grinder mix series represents a working combination of all three, hopefully to your thorough satisfaction. All of these remixes place their source material in a different context. Some act as an homage to the originals, and others are complete reimaginings.

Oval

“Kastell”

Having just released an EP, Oh, on June 15, Markus Popp, a.k.a. Oval, is getting ready to release his double-album return, O, in September. In the meantime, here’s a video for “Kastell” off the Oh EP. According to Thrill Jockey’s cute-ass publicist:

The brief length of the song is characteristic of the second disc worth of songs on the forthcoming “O” double CD/LP set for release on September 7th. Disc 2 features no less than 50 concise, highly detailed pieces that are a conscious nod to the culture of instant gratification. Attentions spans are noticeably changed and the culture of organic discovery is gone from the mainstream and replaced by a hunger for the new. Consumption and criticism at warp speed. Portability dominates the art form to an extent never before seen. These tracks represent Popp’s personal challenge to create pieces within a constrained framework that addresses this aspect of music culture. Popp has even referred to these pieces as ringtones.

I AM SOLD!
