How are you? I am fine. I know, I know, I'm sorry that I haven't been in very good touch lately. But it looks like you've been busy! Say hi to the old gang for me, C Monster, m-rubz, Mukqs, Ross Devlin, Mr P of course... you guys are doing a great job without me. I miss you. But Camp Cerberus has been great! My counselor is telling me that we're doing a pretty good job over here, although we could (and should!) be doing more. I know they are just nurturing us and all. It's pretty cool... they really believe in us. Enclosed you'll find some samples of what I've been up to while I've been gone. Some stuff I got hip to from my fellow Cerberus campers, while others are just things I've been stashing away for this care package to you. Just a little mix of summer softies, not a sharp corner to be found. Think of me when you play it, during those sweaty swelters or cool rainy evenings... think of me. I'll be thinking of you too. And did you know that said band is also coming out with a new album? Well, in order to get us pumped for their new record, the band has prepared an immaculate guest mix for us that features their new single "The Book" as a jumping-off point. "The Book" is an excellent piece of harmonically rich electro-pop music that creates a surprisingly lush texture with a well-arranged minimal palette of synth, guitar, vocals, and drums. All subsequent tracks on the mix grow out of "The Book," making it feel like the greatest Kraftwerk club epic that never existed. It's an impeccably well-sequenced and streamlined plummet into All Tiny Creatures' sonic world. All Tiny's Creatures' Dark Clock is out June 25 via Hometapes. In fact, with the exception of Charles Bradley and kitty, this is a mix of music that I either have no interest in (Destiny's Child), am indifferent to (Bibio), might like if I put more effort in (Mikal Cronin), or flat-out don't enjoy listening to (Tegan and Sara). But rather than stringing these songs together in some sort of masochistic mix, I decided to heavily edit them instead, looping, time-stretching/-compressing, modulating, rearranging, pitch-shifting, and eccojamming/plunderphonic-ing/chopping+screwing to the point where Vampire Weekend's "Hudson" becomes a moody electronic track, Bibio's "Mirroring All" turns into an ambient piece, Beach Fossils' "Sleep Apnea" is deconstructed into a glitchy jam, and the entirety of Foxygen's We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is reduced to less than three minutes. The first Lockbox release was entitled Broadleaf, released when Jesse was 15, a collection of downtempo tropical hip-hop released on the now-defunct Fog Rattle label. In the past three years, his sound has evolved to encompass the entire breadth of post-internet beat culture, all glued together with a uniquely itchy, hyperactive sensibility that ensures Lockbox will never become ensnared in trap or fall asleep in the vaporwave waiting room. Grin is the name given to this breathless mix produced by Lockbox exclusively for TMT. Across 32 minutes, Jesse includes a generous overview of his recent past, a well-timed Daft Punk remix, and a handful of tracks from like-minded SoundCloud-based producers. These small-run art objects signify not only an extension of the aesthetics found within the grooves, but also a special degree of thought that's not easily, or even usually, translated into the digital world. Because TAIGA's proprietor Andrew Lange won't be pressing a mix onto vinyl anytime soon, we're ecstatic about the digital mix he made last year for us. Rather than showcasing TAIGA's formidable roster, Lange made a mix of Danish new wave, Swedish punk, Minneapolis black metal, powerviolence, hardcore, and more — all ripped, appropriately enough, from his personal vinyl collection. Here's what Lange had to say about his mix:
For those familiar with the Taiga Records catalog most of this mix may come as a surprise. Although the label focuses on ambient, drone and jazz I listen to a wide variety of music, a small sector of which is found here. Made for TMT in August 2012 with a lot of the music I was listening to at that time, it's mainly comprised of bands from Sweden, Denmark and Minneapolis with some others thrown in for good measure.
Stream below, and subscribe to our podcast here. [00:00] OFF! - "No Reason to Complain" (Sugar Daddy Live Split Series #3 12"; Amphetamine Reptile, 2012) [01:14] Knugen Faller - "Inte Som Ni" (Inte Som Ni 7"; Cage Match Federation/Ny Våg, 2005) [03:15] Masshysteri - "Låt Dom Hata Oss" (Masshysteri; Feral Ward, 2010) [05:43] Vånna Inget - "Spotta I Motvind" (Jag Ska Fly Tills Jag Hittar Hem 7"; Heptown, 2012) [08:26] Bombettes - "Reaction, Take Action" (Get Out of My Trailer, Sailor!; Ny Våg, 2010) [10:45] Terrible Feelings - "Impending Doom" (Impending Doom 7";Deranged, 2011) [13:38] Gorilla Angreb - "Timen Er Kommet" (Bedre Tider 12"; Feral Ward, 2006) [16:42] Cola Freaks - "Sten" & "Sniper" (Cola Freaks; Douchemaster, 2011) [20:47] Iceage - "Broken Bone" (New Brigade; Dais, 2011) [23:18] Sexdrome - "Moriah" (Grown Younger 12"; Youth Attack, 2010) [25:35] False - "In the Key of Passive Suffering" (False; Gilead Media/Howling Mine, 2011) [38:07] Varix - "Problems" (Varix 7"; Discos Basura, 2011) [39:48] Scaphe - "Rogue Consciousness" (split 7" w/ Cokskar; Insides Music, 2010) [41:18] Condominium - "Life is Amazing" (Warm Home 12"; self-released, 2011) [43:27] Melvins - "Flex With You" (Gluey Porch Treatments; Alchemy, 1986) [45:10] Corrupted - "Rato Triste" (Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos; HG Fact, 2004) [55:53] KTL - "Phill 1" [excerpt with end fade] (V; Editions Mego, 2012) • TAIGA: http://www.taigarecords.com Fri, 03 May 2013 19:11:29 +0000 Mr P 130616 at http://www.tinymixtapes.com Guest Mix: Lucrecia Dalt http://www.tinymixtapes.com/chocolate-grinder/mix-guest-mix-lucrecia-dalt-en-medio I'm still taking in Lucrecia Dalt's breathtaking debut LP, Commotus. With its mystifying lyrics and graceful charm, the music had me drawing comparisons to David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks when I reviewed it earlier this year. On "en medio," an exclusive mix for TMT, the Colombian artist offers a most descriptive insight into her creative working patterns, where she uses snippets of performance and dialogue to expand on the processes behind writing structures — all this while hinting at fresh material from her forthcoming album. There remains little more from me, other than to offer you a pleasant journey through this truly wonderful exposition of artistic method, which comes with an introduction from Lucrecia herself:
There's always some dialogue, a melody or a particular phrase that lingers in my mind after watching a movie, and these fragments become leitmotivs within my imaginary sound world for days, weeks, or even years afterwards. I wanted to integrate some of these in the mix, where they work probably as multipliers of meaning within the narrative. Film became increasingly relevant when I was making the Commotus album, but I was thinking more about imaginary landscapes then, whereas on the new album, film played a key role. I picked around 10 movies I've been heavily resonating with during the past year. While recording I used to play these movies on mute and sometimes just randomly, I was turning up the volume for a second while playing back the stems I was working on. Since I am not having any collaboration from other musicians on this album, these movies became the external shifter elements, the vectors of disorientation, guides to other moods. This way my temperament wasn't the only thing determining the album's direction. The mix slightly exposes some of the resources used on the new record, like frozen tonalities as bridges for change; they illustrate a certain attention, or the care involved in the levels of the mix, which leads to doubt as to whether or not a melody was there all the time, when it appeared or if it had disappeared completely. There are sudden brakes in the narrative, an inversion of meaning through dialogue and texts being brought out of context. It also has musical references that relate to both albums, like the boleros that were very important references to create Commotus, or how the headphonic pieces and soft pink films are important to the new album. While I am making a new record, work becomes a compulsion. My routine changes completely, dreams and thoughts become louder and more intense, conversations more enjoyable and graspable, ordinary walks become remarkable; I'm able to materialize what besets consciousness, self-estrangement rises, as does my affectation.
Stream below, and subscribe to our podcast here. [00:00] Frank Gartner - “cloud environment”

You see, I grew up and went to college in a place where the only indicator of springtime was a trip to Rite Aid for some Claritin. Now, I watch the city parks and distant islands beam bright green, and witness fluorescent leaves budding inches away from my apartment window. Oh, and it's raining. It's just like that one scene from Bambi with the thunderstorm, but it lasts longer, and it's really more of a constant drizzle. In fact, that scene from Bambi is the whole inspiration for this mix. The brain-numbingly nostalgic "Little April Shower" starts the mix off like a lamb, and you'll just have to listen to find out what it turns into. Oh, and have a happy 4/20 weekend readers. The video shot four minutes of audio across an assortment of subtitled TV drama, Rambo fight scenes, arm wrestles, and 80s hair loops. There's an old chap talking on different color telephones; I think he's gambling — he has a deck of cards and a small girl with him. The footage represented a lack of concentration, an affirmation of channel hopping or broadcast epilepsy, of having something to gawp at no matter what, a 2D technistatic plaything. The music not so much as accompanied this jamboree of daytime lowlights, but was embedded deep within it, picking up on the abstract scramble of content assorted in a standardized frequency pole vault. Jar Moff is an artist from Athens, where he grew up, went to college, and befriended Bill Kouligas. Since then, he has deposited a compact batch of online mixes, released an EP on Mathewdavid's Leaving Records, and hammered out a Grosskopf reworking for the RVNG Re-Synthesist project. Kouligas studied in London before moving on to Berlin where he established his PAN label and subsequently distributed Commercial Mouth. It's a striking debut that flaunts the curiosity of an artist willing to crosshatch hip-hop, jazz, and noise with a bungled library of sounds and stylistic reference points. patisiwn moutra is a sample-based mix that follows in the footsteps of Moff's tried and tested sound collage formula. Whereas the 2012 Vimeo piece played into whatever role digital channel hopping might encompass in the home, this jam sounds a lot more personal, as though it has been carefully assembled for private playback. However, the disjointed edge it shares with the video encompasses a gaping insight into methods of consumption; it's a musing on the average SoundCloud forage, ad hoc YouTube binge, and half-digested snippet fidget — it's like a terabyte iPod shuffle compressed into 17 minutes of mashup that's guided by an invisible human hand. Colin Stetson is sensually massaged into a cesspool of trigger clicks, ruffled beards, and heavy riffage, but the mix is so attentively executed that no gain could come from wryly name dropping the panoply of styles and effects that are tackled here. My suggestion is that you check this out for yourself; embrace the surge, open another dozen tabs on your browser, click every hyperlink in sight, and seep into Jar Moff's manic caress. • Jar Moff: http://twitter.com/Jar_Moff • PAN: http://www.pan-act.com Fri, 15 Mar 2013 17:30:00 +0000 Birkut 129693 at http://www.tinymixtapes.com Chocolate Grinder Mix 75 http://www.tinymixtapes.com/chocolate-grinder/mix-chocolate-grinder-mix-75-unisex-earplug-2013 On Friday, March 15, TMT is partnering with Northern Spy to present Unisex Earplug, a party in Austin during SXSW.
