I must admit, I have never done speed. Though I may be unable to relate to the experience of the drug, I can offer you the perceptual quality of speed transmuted into sound: A mixtape that seeks to capture the swiftness and lilting movements of snowflakes through the wind, motions mirrored by furious flurries of breakbeats, as heard in “Bebikukorica Nigiri,” “Second Life,” and “Hell Hath No Fury.” Amidst the complex drum patterns are lush, ethereal pads and spectral synth-stabs, provoking images of forests opening unto the night sky.
“Cold Water” is an exception to the sonic nature of this mixtape, yet still congruent thematically, conjuring cinematic scenes of wintry noir or, perhaps, a narcotized Twin Peaks. I hope you enjoy!
