I need wedding reception music that doesn’t suck.

Congratulations on the engagement. Here are some pre-dance and dance songs that might help you out. There are some great, standard-fare wedding songs (Beatles, Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, etc.), but I tried to stay away from tracks you'll likely stumble on yourself. And if you want to have a single, unobtrusive artist for your pre-dance portion, it wouldn't hurt to go with John Fahey, Amalia Rodriguez, earlier John Coltrane, or Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of course, this all hinges on what theme you might have or what mood you want to convey, but it's a start.

Pre-dance tracks:

1. The Velvet Underground - "Sunday Morning" (Velvet Underground & Nico)
2. John Fahey - "In a Persian Market" (Old Fashioned Love)
3. Sean Lennon - "Into the Sun" (Into the Sun)

Captain Planet’s Lonely Hearts Club.

Aww, there's something about morning cartoons that bring a smile to this girl's face. Right now, I'm humming the little theme song in my head, "Captain Planet, he's OUR HERO GUNNA TAKE POLLUTION DOWN TO ZERO!!" And also, don't you just love that the American in the gang of kids is the irrogant self-absorbed one? Life imitating art! Ha, but really, the show bring back memories of day's past. It was probably the only children's show that was politically and socially aware, instead of the brain cell-killing shit you see today. Anyway, here are some songs that sound mellow and naturey! What Thoreau Would Have Listened to While Writing Walden

There's something so mystifying about nature that it compels us to write about it. And oh boy does Thoreau know how to squeeze out the deepest of our quintessential emotions and transfer it on to paper. Not only that, but the messages the book portrays are now seemingly more prevalent in the present day than back in 1854 when it was published! Anywho, the funny thing is that I happen to actually be reading Thoreau's Walden in my AP Environmental class as we speak; it's actually laying ideally by me right now. Fancy that! Anyhow, if through some time warp I was able to send Thoreau a modern day mix tape, this is what I would have in mind:

Songs that will make me vomit with homesickness

This would have been way easier had I known where you were from. "Mairead" sounds Irish, but I've made an ass of myself more than once making assumptions like that. As such, I went with your standard treatment of "wistful melancholia." Hope it works for you
