Side A: Top 5 songs to play on the way to prom. Side B: Top 5 songs to play on the way home from pro

note from Jess: The best songs are, of course, songs that you and your friends know and like to sing along to. Since you and I aren't friends (yet?) I made this mix from memories of my friends and my prom. I remember there was a lot of pre-nostalgia to prom, so I tried to incorporate as much of that as I could on both sides. Side A is for getting ready to party like you are almost out of high school, Side B is for quiet reflection/makeouts.

Side A:

01. The Dismemberment Plan - "Tonight We Mean It" (Is Terrified)

02. LCD Soundsystem - "North American Scum" (Sound Of Silver)

03. The Magnetic Fields - "The Sun Goes Down And The World Goes Dancing" (69 Love Songs)

04. Joe Jackson - "Kinda Kute" (I'm The Man)

05. The Mountain Goats - "This Year" (The Sunset Tree)

Side B:

01. The Clientele - "Bookshop Casanova" (God Save The Clientele)

02. Devendra Banhart - "Quetate Luna" (Cripple Crow)

03. Mirah - "La Familia" (You Think It's Like This But Really It's Like This)

04. Jeff Buckley - "Everybody Here Wants You" (Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk)

05. The Flaming Lips - "Do You Realize??" (Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots)

Mix Tapes

Here’s how The Automatic Mix Tapes Generator works: Send us a thought, phrase, question, quotation, or whatever else, and if one of our mix tape robots fancies your suggestion, the crazy set of circuits might just make a mix tape out of it — well, at least a tracklisting for one. Request a mix tape here, and help us compile mix tapes here.
