F.S. Blumm Summer Kling

[Morr Music; 2006]

Styles: 40-minute video of dolphins doing flips in extreme slow motion
Others: The Album Leaf, Muma, Juana Molina

Continuing from where his other albums left off, F.S. Blumm’s third full-length of lazy electronic/acoustic folk is so laid back it’s almost comatose. The dulcet orchestrations of German multi-instrumentalist Frank Schültge utilize everything from xylophone, melodica, and French horn to a metallophone, bass clarinet, and field recordings, yet they never sound cluttered. With the Mr. Rogers vibe squarely in check, Summer Kling is paced more like an autumn album than the title would have you assume. It feels like that grey time between resting and sleep, where you could get up if you had to but passing out is a much more comfortable option. This kinda makes me look forward to that coma Miss Cleo told me about.
