Motherfuck. Right when I’m having the time of my life at Northern Spy’s second annual Spy Music Festival, they go and make an announcement that sends me over the top. The eclectic and unpredictable label has just announced the signing of L.A.’s destructo-tribe Foot Village, and so now I’m rioting throughout the city because I just don’t know what else to do about it. Though, as a favor to you readers, I have taken a minor break from my violent and passionate tirade to blog for a moment, because that’s how my generation riots these days.

Foot Village will be releasing their Northern Spy debut in February of 2013, but they’ll make the songs available digitally on December 21, 2012, “just in case that is the end of the everything,” according to the press release. And what a way to go, rockin’ those thunderous rhythms of Foot Village while god smites our depraved and fragile bodies.

But wait, there’s even more to enjoy before the final countdown, as Foot Village is celebrating the signing by releasing a slew of promotional material for all the boys and girls and the in-betweens. First, a FV sampler (available below); next, a webmercial to get you even more pumped about the new record (also available below); and then a whole shit ton of more videos with more on the way. Shit on me, I am just beside myself.

Pete Swanson announces Pro Style EP, but you already knew that, you superfan you

What up, Pete Swanson superfans? Catch this basketball. Nice catch! You’re always on the ball, just like you’re on the ball with all the new Pete Swanson news. Like all of the Swan Sons, you know about his work with Yellow Swans, along with his recent solo albums Man With Potential and I Don’t Rock At All. You follow all his work; you’ve even got a tattoo to prove it. By the way, cool tattoo, man. But I have a question: Did you know that the film The Professional was based on Pete Swanson’s life? WHAAAAT! That’s what you just said.

In related news, Swanson is releasing an EP titled Pro Style. As the Swan Sons at Ad Hoc report, the new EP will come out this summer through Type Records. Only Swanson knows the exact dates, because only Swanson knows anything. While you’re thinking about Swanson’s infinite knowledge, check out the video for the EP’s title track, directed by Brenna Murphy.

Dennis Flemion of The Frogs missing, presumed dead

From Fox 11:

Divers continued their search for a missing swimmer in a Racine County lake, but as of Monday evening he had not been found.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling says officials continued to look for 57-year-old Dennis Flemion of West Allis. But as of 4:30 p.m. Monday, his body had not been recovered from Wind Lake.

Wind Lake Fire Chief Rob Robins tells The Journal Times that visibility and windy conditions have complicated the search. Flemion was boating with family and friends Saturday afternoon when he went for a swim and did not resurface.

From Matador:

Dennis Flemion, one half of the Milwaukee duo known as The Frogs, was identified earlier today as the missing swimmer from a Saturday afternoon disappearance on Racine, WI’s Wind Lake. […]

Dennis was without question, one of the funniest persons I’ve ever encountered. Painfully so. It would not be an exaggeration to say there were several times in which his verbal evisceration chops were almost impossible to keep up with (those who’ve attended Frogs shows over the years know exactly what I’m talking about).

There’s a couple of new Frogs albums that came out last week on iTunes ; ‘Squirrel Bunny Juniper Deluxe’ and ‘Count Yer Blessingz’. The Dennis that we saw onstage would’ve recognized this tragic event as a huge opportunity to plug some new recordings. Sans wig, drum sticks, etc. he might’ve preferred I’d not even mention it. The fantastic output and fleeting moments of near-fame aside, I hope he’s remembered as a really sweet guy first, and a hugely talented artist second. Our thoughts go out to Jimmy, the rest of the Flemion family, their friends and everyone who was lucky enough to know Dennis. Simply saying, “he’ll be missed” doesn’t come close to covering it.

MV & EE bring their celestial witch show on the road, curate Asheville’s Inner Mountain fest

Ultra-prolific celestial psych folk wanderers MV & EE are gearing up to wander right on through North America’s roads less traveled this summer. The Vermont-based core duo of MV (Matt Valentine) and EE (Erika Elder) are hitting the road with Mick Flower (bass/guitar), Carson “Smokehound” Arnold (drums/electronics), and Herbcraft (low end theory) for a string of dates in the US and Canada. The band also headlines Asheville, NC’s Inner Mountain Festival, an evening of performances curated by MV & EE, featuring the likes of Samara Lubelski, Willie Lane, Dredd Foole, the Michael Flower Band, Herbcraft, and Von Himmel.

MV & EE and friends will be repping their latest release, Space Homestead, out now via Woodsist. The band already has 30+ albums already under their collective fair-trade Indonesian beaded witch belts, but Space Homestead is their first since 2009. The band is keeping it East Coast on this one, with brief jaunts into Quebec and Ontario. the whole things concludes in what promises to be the most magical place in America: Salem, MA’s 1794 Meetinghouse. Appropriate enough for people who make self-proclaimed “lunar ragas.”

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah members clap their hands and say “nah”

Oh, the perils of having a critically acclaimed debut album, trying mightily to fulfill expectations with subsequent albums, and not quite reaching the level of success that one would hope. That’s just me offering some healthy speculation, because multi-instrumentalist Robbie Guertin and bassist Tyler Sargent are keeping quiet so far about the specific reasons for their departure from the quintessential indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Still, the aforementioned members made their intentions clear in a couple of posts to the band’s website last week.

You can read the individual posts here and here, but here are a couple of relevant excerpts. First, Guertin writes, “I’m writing to let you know that our upcoming New York show will be my last with the band. Being a member of Clap has been an incredible experience, but I have decided to move on and see what’s next. I will continue to make music with my other band, Radical Dads, pursue miscellaneous artistic endeavors, and also grow some vegetables. I am excited to see what else might come my way. Maybe some tomatoes?”

The show in New York this past Saturday was Sargent’s final foray with the band as well, as he wrote a couple days after Guertin: “I am very proud of what this band has accomplished over the past eight years, and I will miss playing with such talented musicians. I wish Alec, Sean and Lee the best of luck with whatever CYHSY does in the future. I wish Robbie the best of luck with his musical and horticultural endeavors. As for me, I am currently in the process of forming a presidential exploratory committee for 2016.”

There’s little word on what Guertin and Sargent’s absence will mean for the band itself (as it currently exists), but I can’t imagine the mood among remaining members is one conducive to hand-clapping — maybe tear-shedding or inebriated songwriting, but not hand-clapping. And certainly no “yeah”-saying.

Four Tet announces new album Pink; Thom Yorke psyched!!!

Oh shit, guys. What’s up! Kieran Hebden, here! How is everyone doing? Yeah, I’m doing good, too. You know, I’ve only got a second here to write; Yorke and Burial and I are hitting up our Tuesday-night bowling league in like one minute. But yo, I just wanted to say that I’ve been meaning to write and record and release another album since 2010’s There Is Love in You. Which, you know, turned out alright for me! But Honestly, I’ve been just hanging out and casually recording my jams and hitting clubs to dance and DJ so much that I never really got around to it. You know how it is. Especially when Thom is all like “dude, let’s go pop some of them Bath Salts and shit and hit the town!” I mean, I don’t want to say too-too much about that, but… yeah, that dude is tiring!

Anyway, so I’ve been feeling kinda bad about not releasing a follow-up and all that, but then it just hits me: why don’t I just compile all of my vinyl-only singles that I’ve been kicking out while Thom is still passed out in the tub on Sunday mornings and call it good?!? So, yo, that’s what’s up. I called up those fucking chodes at Pitchfork and told ‘em. “New album coming on August 20.” It’s called Pink, and you know what? I’m gonna make it even easier on myself and put it out digitally on my own Text label! It’s gonna be awesome! I’m done! Well, maybe I’ll put out a CD version in Japan on August 22 on Hostess Entertainment. Boom! Oh, and I also told those fuckers that I want to be on that “Pitchfork Classic” shit. Cuz I mean, come on. Rounds? Fucking awesome record. Shit, anyway, that’s it guys. I gotta jet for the bowling alley. Last week I bowled a turkey. Thom tried to eat its face off! More on that next time. Peace!

Pink tracklist:

01. Locked
02. Lion
03. Jupiters
04. Ocoras
05. 128 Harps
06. Pyramid
07. Peace for Earth
08. Pinnacles
