A$AP Rocky goes on tour with A$AP Mob, Drake, some other guys who probably also claim to be pretty http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-12-01-asap.jpg

A$AP Rocky is a young man who considers himself to be quite pretty. If you don’t know this, you have not heard his mixtape from last year, LiveLoveA$AP. Or any other song featuring the young Harlem rapper. He also has a posse called A$AP Mob, which I can only assume consists of a lot of other guys who think they’re pretty. Actually, maybe Rocky is the pretty one and the rest of the Mob fulfill other specific roles. Like one’s the tough guy, and one’s the explosives expert, and, yes, I am suggesting that A$AP Mob is the A-Team. What I’m trying to say here is, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Mob are going on tour through late January and early February.

Once A$AP Rocky leaves the company of his A$AP brethren, he’ll spend a lot of time with a guy who definitely considers himself extremely pretty: Drake. Along with Kendrick Lamar, Rocky is opening for Drake on his massive world tour. Incidentally, “pretty” and “massive” are basically the two words that sum up Drake’s M.O. If you were somehow struggling to understand Drake, well, maybe that will help.

RIP: Jennifer “Miro” Anderson of San Francisco punk band The Nuns

From SF Weekly:

Jennifer Anderson, a musician, writer, and model whose doll-like looks and seductive voice helped make a name for pioneering San Francisco punk band the Nuns, died last month in New York City of complications from cancer. She was 54.

Anderson, also known as Jennifer Miro or Mistress Jennifer, had been diagnosed with both liver and breast cancer, according to her neighbor, Jill Lamar, who helped care for Anderson in the final months of her life. Refusing standard treatments and hospitalization for her illness, Anderson lived out her last months in her Manhattan studio apartment, aided by visiting nurses and Lamar. She passed away Dec. 16, 2011, at Bellevue Hospital in New York, where she had been admitted several weeks earlier for hospice care.

The Head and the Heart go on tour, confounding the worlds of medicine and science

The Head and the Heart are going on tour, and this disgusts me. No, no, I don’t have anything against them. They seem like a perfectly acceptable group of folky young men and women from Seattle. What disgusts me is the imagery. Think about it, how would you react if you witnessed a head moving autonomously from the influence of a body. Is it floating? Is it rolling on the ground? How is this head getting around?? It’s freaky at best and really gross at worst!!

Don’t even get me started about throwing a heart into the mix. Nobody, outside of maybe scientists and people in medical school, should have any business regarding a head and a heart that doesn’t involve skin, a skeleton, and a number of vital organs. The only people involved with such things are serial killers, and serial killers are jerks. Really, the whole thing is really messing with my head. It’s just… yuck. Still, the less disgusting version of The Head and the Heart, the one with bodies and guitars and stuff, are heading on tour throughout the month of March. Before that, they’re playing a handful of shows in Australia.

The Head and the Heart dates:

01.04.12 - Melbourne, Australia - Corner Hotel *
01.05.12 - Adelaide, Australia - The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel *
01.07.12 - Busselton, Australia - Southbound Festival

Grimes signs to 4AD, prepares for magical winter pixie tour

Tiny-voiced beautiful person Claire Boucher’s musical project Grimes has signed to indie heavy hitter 4AD. After several sought-after releases on Quebec’s Arbutus Records, Ms. Boucher’s third full-length, Visions, was slated for an end of January release via Arbutus, but now it looks like 4AD won’t be unleashing this puppy until February 21 (it’ll still be released on Arbutus in Canada). That’s okay, though. In fact, that February delay is perfect. Because once you get an earful of Boucher’s swooning space R&B, you’ll wanna make her your Valentine.

Grimes is a lady about town in her adopted home of Montreal, where she rocks audio/visual music/art as part of the city’s underground loft scene. The accolades have been stacking up faster than pizza boxes in a frat house, and she toured last spring with everyone’s favorite Scandinavian popstress, Lykke Li. This winter/spring, Grimes will be braving the elements and striking out on her own lengthy tour of the United States and Canada. So if you happen to be around, say, Atlanta, on March 5 and you hear ethereal pixie music emanating from down the street, don’t worry. You didn’t take too many mushrooms, and Björk isn’t living in a tiny theater inside your closet. It’s just Grimes, bringing her Visions to the good people of North America.

Demdike Stare release Elemental Parts 1 & 2 while you weren’t looking, plan to drop Parts 3 & 4 when you least expect them

As everybody knows, nothing of note happens in the last 10 days of the year. That’s the time for tossing wine and beast down the old gullet, typically in celebration of Wine and Beast Day. But, oddly enough, shadowy Manchester-based electronic duo Demdike Stare don’t celebrate Wine and Beast Day. Instead of activities related to wine/beast, Demdike Stare spent their time releasing a new record. Or half of one? Regardless, they did put out Elemental Parts 1 & 2 through Modern Love in late December. The record comes in a particularly fancy quadruple gatefold vinyl package, with a book-style outer shell meant to eventually hold all four parts of Elemental. In addition to all that, the release is limited to 1,000 copies, with each record in the set printed on different-colored vinyl.

For now, though, two spots in Demdike Stare’s book will have to remain empty. While Parts 1 & 2 are out now, Parts 3 & 4 are decidedly not out now. They’re not even coming out until the future! Namely, early 2012, but the exact date is still undecided. If I had to guess, it will be when you least expect it. Once complete, Elemental will consist of the following four multi-track parts: Chyranthe, Violetta, Rose, and Iris.

If all that sounds like too much hassle, don’t worry, there’s an easier solution. Actually, maybe don’t worry anyway, since you’re probably not that big of a Demdike Stare fan. These are guys whose most high-profile release, Tryptych, was a massive 2.5-hour collection of material. These guys are hassle incarnate. But I digress! For those who find the limited-edition vinyl game too trying, Elemental will be released as a double CD later this year. That said, the CD version boasts a different tracklist than the vinyl, along with altered versions of the original tracks. So, if you’re really dedicated to hearing everything Demdike Stare releases, you’ll need to buy two limited-edition vinyl sets and a double CD. Only by looking deep within yourself can you know whether or not it’s truly worth the hassle.
