Angel Olsen announces new album MY WOMAN, extensive tour

Ugh, Mondays. Nothing chills my sunny disposition more than resuming the monotonous grind of getting stuck in traffic, spilling mustard on my good pants, and typing away mindlessly at my computer until I need to get a series of finger transplants, because mine have been reduced to literal dust (it’s a real problem.) Luckily, Angel Olsen has at least brought my smile back, with the announcement of MY WOMAN, her new album and follow-up to 2014’s great Burn Your Fire For No Witness. It’s due out September 2 on Jagjaguwar.

Last week, Olsen teased MY WOMAN with a trailer for album opener “Intern,” and it appears as though the album will follow the direction of that track’s synth-infused heart. Olsen threw her piano out the window, opting instead to write songs on synthesizer and Mellotron, and recruited Justin Raisen (who has formerly worked with such synth-indebted acts as Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, and Santigold) to produce. “Intern” being any indication of the entire album, the addition of electronics to back Olsen’s broad vocal range will prove to be a satisfying mixture.

If all that is not enough to cure you of your Monday blues, Olsen has also announced a handful of June and July dates, as well as an extensive tour through North America and Europe, starting in September.

And if all that is not enough to break you out of your funk, you can pre-order the album now, and also receive the 7-inch Others’ Blues, which contains covers of Roky Erickson’s “For You” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than The Rest.”

Check out the tracklist for MY WOMAN, tour dates, the trailer for “Intern,” and the 26-seconds-longer full version of “Intern” below.
