Bowerbirds announce fall tour, starting with a festival that also includes Public Enemy… say what?
By Erika H on Aug 5 2010
Now before you get too excited, let me just go ahead and say that no, Bowerbirds don’t have a new album coming out. “Why tour, then?” you ask. “Once they get started, they don’t deviate much from established folksy style (not complaining here), so why break the perfect and natural progression of release-press-tour?”
We may not have the answer to that, but hey, we got dates, beginning with a spot in the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, NC (their hometown, though I’m not sure where exactly their snow-covered Airstream trailer is within the Research Triangle) with Public Enemy. And since there’s ostensibly no new material floating around, why don’t you give Upper Air (TMT Review) another spin?
Tourdates:
09.10.10 - Raleigh, NC - Hopscotch Music Festival (Pour House)
09.24.10 - Austin, TX - The Mohawk *
09.25.10 - Frisco, TX - Oysterfest
10.11.10 - Washington, DC - Black Cat Backstage

Pyramids leader assembles Prurient, Marissa Nadler, Swans, Slowdive, Unwound members for mega-project Sailors with Wax Wings
By Liz Louche on Aug 4 2010
Whoever said Christmas comes but once a year is clearly not a fan of weird metal/experimental music. See, last summer, Pyramids leader R. Loren conceived of the most magical idea: to create the most amazing project EVER. By combining his formidable talents with those of really, really cool people such as J. Leah, Ted Parsons (Swans, Jesu, Godflesh), Simon Scott (Slowdive), Aidan Baker (Nadja), Colin Marston (Krallice), Vern Rumsey (Unwound), Dominick Fernow (Prurient, Cold Cave), James Blackshaw (solo and Current 93), Hildur Gudnadottir (solo and touring cellist for Fever Ray, múm), Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), and Marissa Nadler (solo, guest on newest Xasthur record), Loren has done just that with a new project called Sailors with Wax Wings.
The self-titled album, which features art by David Tibet (Current 93) and Faith Coloccia (Mamiffer), will be released by brand-new label Angel Oven Records. Album release date pending, but shhhh: If America’s enemies discover all these incredible artists in one place, it could spell disaster… because this is weapons-grade awesome.

Dr. Dog start making the rounds in the fall
By Erika H on Aug 4 2010
Dr. Dog have completed their residency, and now they’re full-on raking in the bills. Their newest album, Shame, Shame, is getting the proper kudos from all the respectable names (NPR, Rolling Stones — hell, USA Today, too), despite possibly being up for a malpractice suit according to some of our humble opinions (TMT Review). Earlier in July, these guys were also the musical guests on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, who was particularly impressed by the gatefold on the LP release. Now if that kind of attention doesn’t scream success, I don’t know what does — except maybe appearing on The Late Show.
With all things going their way, Dr. Dog are coming your way in October, when they begin a massive tour of North America. Now, they’re not touring with Medications, but I guess Here We Go Magic will make for a good show. At least there won’t be the opportunity to make more lame jokes about each marquee.

Woven Bones sign to Hardly Art and expand fall tour as I waste time thinking up jokes about Woven Boners
By Kid Midnight on Aug 4 2010
It’s National Boner Celebration this week at Tiny Mix Tapes and in celebration Woven Bones have announced, in addition to their just-announced signing with Hardly Art, that they will be heading out on the “Everything’s Coming Up Boners” national tour. The band will be playing a veritable butt-load of shows all across this boner-lovin’ nation of ours. Joining our favorite Austin rock-piece on the jaunt will include opening sets by The Coathangers and Frankie Rose & The Outs.
A new 7-inch (featuring new songs “I’ve Gotta Get” and “Hey Kid”) will be available for purchase August 10 at nearly every show on the tour (sorry Austin and Dallas). But if you fancy the band so much that you want more than a couple songs, you can wait patiently for the band’s Hardly Art follow-up to their debut on HoZac, In and Out and Back Again (TMT Review). The new album is scheduled tentatively for mid-2011. Last but not least, you weirdo techies can enjoy an Insound session or some SoundCloud, but don’t blame me when your mom gets mad at you for spending all your time on the internet.
