The Arcade Fire announce new single, god willing

The Arcade Fire’s website has been updated with an image of a postcard, with the following message:

Howdy yall- Just finishing up pressing our new 12”. Should be in stores in the next couple weeks. God willing. Good luck with finals. See you this summer!”

This will more than likely be a single off of the forthcoming album, scheduled for release sometime later this year.

Dirty Projectors announce new summer tour, are perverts?

From the Secret Diary of Dave Longstreth:

The Yale campus is always littered with a bunch of fine foxy females, but I always try my best to avoid their friendly advances. Don’t get me wrong; Yale chicks are all super super cute (with surprisingly big tits, actually), but I always rush to get to my music class. Why? Two words: Ms. Toshiko, the Japanese musicologist who taught the entry-level course, Music As Diaspora.

Let me tell you, diary, Ms. Toshiko is fucking blazin’, so incredibly hot that my pants would be on fire every time we even got CLOSE to making eye contact. I’m sure she knew how hot she was too; she’d always wear really tight miniskirts and revealing blouses, just daring students to not stare at her as if their lives depended on it.

But while her outfits were par for the course, today was a special day.

After a discussion about African polyrhythms, Toshiko dismissed the class. I always took my sweet time before I left, though, as I loved watching her erase the marker board. I felt a little perverse for doing it, but really — Ms. Toshiko is so incredibly sexy. She must’ve known that I take awhile to pack up my stuff, because today, after all the students left the room, she suddenly turned around, looked me straight in the eyes, and said, “Hey Dave, would you mind helping me erase the board?”

My heart was racing. “Yes, I’d love to,” I muttered. I promptly approached the marker board and grabbed an eraser, starting from the right side, as she continued from the left.

“So, how’s school going?” she asked.

“Pretty good, I’m having a blast.”

“That’s great to hear!” she said with enthusiasm. “How do you like my class?”

“I love it. I absolutely love it.”

“Oh yeah? What do you like best about it?” she said as she turned her body toward me, wearing a cute half smirk on her face.

I was starting to sweat. I was scared to tell her the truth, but if there was ever a moment to seize, this would be it. After all, when would I have the chance to be fully honest with her again? When could I ever possibly talk to her again on such an intimate level? I took a moment to catch my breath, wiping the sweat off my brow.

“Dave?” she asked. “Did you hear me? I asked what you liked best about my class?”

It was now or never, I thought to myself.

“I have to be honest with you, Ms. Toshiko. I really loved the time we spent on African scales. That was fucking rad.”

RIP: Ronnie James Dio of Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell

From The Guardian:

The heavy metal singer, Ronnie James Dio, died today at the age of 67. He had been suffering from stomach cancer.

Dio was best known for fronting Black Sabbath after the departure of Ozzy Osbourne, but was also involved in the bands Elf, Rainbow, Heaven & Hell and Dio during a career stretching over 53 years.

His current band, Heaven & Hell, which features other former members of Black Sabbath, had announced earlier this year that they were pulling out of their summer commitments due to the singer’s ill health.

The Beatles = flesh-eating zombies? New film Paul is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion in the works

Zombies have been Nazis and punks; hell, zombies have even been Ned Flanders. And now a decaying version of The Beatles have reunited to not only hold your hand, but to eat it too in the forthcoming film, Paul is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion.

The movie is based on Alan Goldsher’s illustrated novel, Paul is Undead, which will be published June 22. In this gripping, comedy/horror-filled tome, John Lennon, a zombie since infancy, kills Paul, who proves to be a better friend and songwriter undead than alive. Joined by George and Ringo (who isn’t a zombie, but a ninja), they feast on the brains of fans, sweeping across the world in a zombie-rock pandemonium. In this alternate universe, Mick Jagger, who doesn’t actually have sympathy for ghouls, is the pride of England in terms of zombie hunting and gives the four a real reason to run. (Now, imagine A Hard Day’s Night, with John and Paul — arms dangling, jaws detaching — shuffling away from Mick Jagger, leading that iconic stampede of screaming girls.) Check out Goldsher’s website for more plot details.

Double Feature, which produced Pulp Fiction and Erin Brockovich, purchased the rights to Goldsher’s book. As of now, the project is still in need of funding, a cast, and more brains.

If this music-zombie mash-up trend continues, do you think the undead might prove to like chillwave?

Pay-what-you-want model adopted by indie games company, lawsuit imminent

The pay-what-you-want model was first implemented by the sanctimonious, environmental anarchists of Radiohead with their In Rainbows release. There have since been several attempts by musicians to test out similar models, but now the pay-what-you-want pricing model has been adopted by an independent games company. Wolfire Games is offering a download bundle of five classic indie games for whatever you can be assed to hand over.

The combined retail value of the games is $80, with Wolfire co-founder Jeffrey Rosen saying “It has sold far, far better than we expected.” In fact, by Tuesday the Humble Indie Bundle had made $956,278 from 106,704 contributors and “25% of people who acquired the bundle did so through P2P, not the company’s site (where it was DRM-free and available for download).” Wolfire have also benefited from new web traffic, more fans, and increased promotion (hello!).

But this, of course, means war. Our valued musicians are having a tough time as it is without indie games companies stealing their innovative business models. Expect Yorke, the brothers Greenwood, et. al to begin legal proceedings very soon. It’s just not the music industry without expensive lawsuits.
