Archers of Loaf reunite for a few minutes, no big whoop

Archers of Loaf reunite for a few minutes, no big whoop

Like every other hard working, cult status-y group of heroic indie rock bro-dogs, North Carolina’s Archers of Loaf were contractually obligated to split up at the end of the glorious 90s. And even though they could have waited until each member’s death to be reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven, the band apparently decided to hedge their teleological bets and play now instead.

As Pitchfork reports, this past Saturday, they gave the hometown audience at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina a bit of a surprise when they mysteriously appeared on-stage as the opening act for The Love Language and proceeded to dole out thick-hewn slices of classic, steaming hot Loaf. No official full-on reunion plans have been announced as of yet, so it looks like we’ll be left wondering for a little while whether or not this spontaneous show was just a curious one-off or not.

Now, I can hear you asking, “‘Mysteriously appeared?’ Does that mean there were fog machines??” Well, see for yourself, man. A YouTube user posted videos and a full setlist from the gig. Which… I’ve gotta say, really makes my job a lot easier. You can take it from here, YouTube usermumblepop. Later, everyone. (There were no fog machines).

Full setlist:

01. Audiowhore
02. Harnessed in Slums
03. Revenge
04. Nostalgia
05. Lowest Part Is Free
06. Freezing Point
07. Greatest of All Time
08. You and Me
09. Might
10. Web in Front
11. Wrong
12. Slow Worm

of Montreal coming to YOUR city to say “thanks!”

Hey, all you music fans! of Montreal is going back on tour to entertain you with their top-of-the-line stage show, life-like props, unexpected covers, and totally danceable music! The band has announced a four-week North American tour that kicks off in our nation’s capital and will see the band visit the individual homes of every US citizen who bought the band’s latest release on Polyvinyl, False Priest (TMT Review), so that lead-singer Kevin Barnes and co. can offer up individual thanks to each fan.

The tour, which unfortunately can’t visit each and every fan personally, will be stopping in over 20 American cities so that all the loyal of Montreal devotees can watch the band they helped turn into one of last year’s critical favorites. “We’ll have some new props and things, but those ones are secret. Maybe I’ll come out and do a Muddy Waters cover or something,” Barnes told Spin magazine, before elaborating that fans can expect old tunes (such as those featured on the recent Ambivalent Stumbling Hysterical Dispatches retrospective digital box set), new tunes (such as those to be featured on a new EP the band is working on), and cleverly-picked cover songs on the new tour.

Panda Bear finalizes Tomboy release date, but I’m so cool that I’m waiting for the Tomboy follow-up announcement

I step out for lunch, run an errand, and Panda Bear suddenly decides to drop the release date for Tomboy. What a world! Anyway, it’s official now: the new album, Panda Bear’s fourth solo full-length, is scheduled for release on April 19 via AC’s Paw Tracks label. You’ve probably heard several tracks already through the series of vinyl singles released last year by Domino, Paw Tracks, and FatCat (another is forthcoming on Kompakt), but boy, you’ve never heard the songs like this before! Actually, you really haven’t — each song has been remixed with help from Sonic Boom.

Sit tight for more details. We’ll have ‘em soon.

La Sera give the people what they want, assuming the people want a new single, a new album, and an extended tour

Katy Goodman (a.k.a. Kickball Katy a.k.a. the bassist for Vivian Girls) knows what the people want. See, what they want is more music from her dream-pop project La Sera, and that’s exactly what they’re going to get when Goodman releases the Devils Hearts Grow Gold 7-inch on January 18 (check out the track now over at the Chocolate Grinder) and a self-titled album on February 15. What the people also want is to be able to see La Sera live. And, what do you know, they’re going to get that, too, as La Sera’s winter tour has been extended all the way into the spring. What more could the people ask for? Nothing.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHH No Limit Records Is Back!

What has hip-hop been missing the last few years? Is it the presence of Dr. Dre, whose Detox is being constantly fine-tuned to disappoint as extravagantly as possible? What about a reunited Outkast (or, really, even a solo effort from Andre)? Wrong and wrong again. Three simple words sum up the massive void left in the hip-hop landscape: No. Limit. Records.

Yes, times have been dark without Master P’s mighty empire, which introduced us to the ever-charming likes of Sillkk the Shocker and Mystikal. But those times are over, because No Limit Records is back! Taking the mantle that P. himself once shed, Master P’s family is relaunching the label as a digital-only affair called No Limit Records Forever. Heading up this venture as president is Romeo Miller, who you and I know better as child rap sensation Lil’ Romeo.

Who knows what all this will mean for No Limit Records and its legacy of poorly Photoshop’d explosions, but you know what? This video is still awesome. Fry ‘em!
