ATP announces I'll Be Your Mirror Melbourne, with My Bloody Valentine, Swans, God Speed You! Black Emperor, special screening of The Rescuers Down Under

If TMT is the tiniest mix-tape-that’s-not-really-a-mixtape, then ATP is probably the biggest one. Sure, they don’t divine unbeatable playlists or dish out dick-withering criticism like we do, but their epic festivals and artist-curated I’ll Be Your Mirror events have been basically telling me which bands are cool for years now, and I’m pretty sure that they’re almost as popular as we are, so I think the comparison is applicable. Besides, I can safely say that, without their help, I’d be one tasteless motherfucker. (Seriously, guys; my taste is terrible. I totally LOVE that dumb little theme song from the Spotify ads. What the fuck is that??)

Thankfully, ATP is ready to step in and tell me what’s up once again, as they recently announced their return to the land down under for I’ll Be Your Mirror Melbourne. This one is going down February 16 and 17 of 2013 at Westgate Entertainment Centre and Grand Star Reception in the Melbournian suburb of Altona and will be curated by ATP Records alumni The Drones (who, incidentally, we usually love. That’s tastemaking synergy, y’all). The lineup includes My Bloody Valentine (in their first Australian appearance since 1992), as well as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Swans, The Dead C, Sleepy Sun, Thee Oh Sees, and several other bands that I’ll soon be telling everyone I know that I’ve been “into for a while.” As always, more details and ticket information is available at the ATP internet word-wide web page. Tickets for this one are going on sale on Monday, August 9, which gives me a few more days to cram in some repeated listens of the “Guile” music from Street Fighter II. Sweet.
