It seems as though the secret to domestic bliss in the Animal Collective family lies in their strict adherence to the adage “fair’s fair.” Apparently, at any give time, it’s perfectly acceptable within AC Inc. for any one of the four members to, say, write the next hit melody, sing the next song, act in a feature film, play a guitar instead of a drum, bring in a next-level loop, take a four-year break and then walk right back in, play a drum instead of a guitar, design his own shoe, or tour the United States in support of a solo album. That’s just how it’s done in AC-land. Hey, whatever works, right?
So it’s no surprise that, shortly after we all learned that Panda Bear would be surfing around the US and Europe on his now-like-six-months-old Tomboy album (TMT Review), Avey Tare’ll be good and god damned if he’s gonna sit idly by and let him hog all the headlines! Hell no. It’s time for Avey to drop his own hastily-announced list of solo dates supporting a record that has already been out for a while! Here’s hoping that you totally forgot the fact that you were only mildly impressed with Down There last October when you last listened to it! This is 2K11, bro. Avey Tare is a genius. Besides, who the heck are you? Sorry about that, Avey. They didn’t mean it.
