Beasties Boys’ Adam Yauch says reports of him being cancer-free are “exaggerated”

Beasties Boys' Adam Yauch says reports of him being cancer-free are "exaggerated"

In sadder news than we’re used to on Monday mornings, it appears as if the happy news we received on Friday about Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch being cancer free was a little premature. The MC had this to say through press-release: “While I’m grateful for all the positive energy people are sending my way, reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated. I’m continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future.”

The Beastie Boys’ previously announced new album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, is still scheduled for a spring release.

RIP: Jesus "Jess" Porras of The Mixtures

From the San Diego Union-Tribune:

Jesus “Jess” Porras, longtime resident of San Diego, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on December 26, 2010. Jess was born in Oxnard, to Felipe and Dolores on November 20, 1941 and with his sister Maria and brothers Phil and Art, were raised surrounded by a large, loving extended Mexican American family.

Jess came from a lineage of professional musicians and his first love was music which he took to early, learning the violin at nine, followed by tenor and alto sax, flute, horn, guitar, and piano.

He was a member of “The Mixtures,” an R&B band, and played all the major L.A. Clubs from 1957 to 1962. Their album “Stompin at the Rainbow” is being re-released April 5.

Radiohead Haiti benefit show released as a multi-cam 2-disc DVD

Last January, Radiohead setup a last-minute benefit show in L.A. to raise money in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. Fourteen fans took their camcorders to the show and, after a concerted joint effort spearheaded by superfan Inez, produced a multi-cam 2-disc DVD set. With help from Radiohead, Inez and other fans are now making the 24-song set available for download here. And in the spirit of the original performance, they’ve even partnered with Oxfam to setup a special donation page. Kudos for making shit happen!
