Ever since 2007’s Person Pitch (not to mention the continued existence of a little band called Animal Collective), Noah Lennox (a.k.a. Panda Bear) has had the power to send the indie rock community into spasms of anticipation with every tiny announcement. Yet, I bet the man isn’t even fazed by this power; that’s how totally chill he is! I can only imagine that when he announced that “Tomboy,” the first single off his forthcoming album of the same title, was coming out July 13 via Paw Tracks, it was as a tossed-off aside during a half-focused game of darts in Lisbon. And, surely, in between turns, Lennox also mentioned something suggesting that the two-track single, featuring the title track and “Slow Motion,” would be the first in a series of limited-edition 7-inches on a variety of labels, none of which will be available digitally until the release of the Tomboy full-length.
As hypothetical Panda Bear finished up his game of darts (in which he did alright, not his best, but still not bad for just fooling around) and turned to open another fine Portuguese beer, he casually dropped the fact that he was going to drop by the US a few times this year. He figured he’d stop by, do a little touring, have a cup of coffee or two, and perhaps do a bit of thrift-store stopping. But if none of that goes as planned, he probably won’t be too broken up about it.
