BitTorrent launches its own streaming service

Torrent giant BitTorrent has launched its own streaming service, BitTorrent Now, in a move hailed by some in the industry as a boon for underground artists. The music and video service will be supported by ads, with musicians receiving 70% of the profits from their work. Some artists in the future may opt to have a direct payment model.

The company says the service will highlight up-and-coming musicians as opposed to established ones, and all the media available will be legal and creator-uploaded.

The app is available now on Android, and a version for Apple products is expected soon.
