In the afterglow of the World Cup and its associated fever, anything that is remotely Brazilian is tres chic right now — you could literally spray paint a soccer ball and a Brazilian flag on a moldy mattress and sell it for top dollar on Craigslist at the moment. While they don’t necessarily need to leverage off any nationalistic hype, Brazilian garage-psych wizards Boogarins are capitalizing on their moment in the zeitgeist by heading out on a tour bigger than that huge Jesus statue.
The band has been trekking around the world to launch their debut record As Plantas Que Curam which loosely translates to “Kiss Me, I’m Brazilian” and was released last year via Other Music and Burger Records. Now they’ve lined up a final run of dates more epic than a penalty shoot-out in a World Cup Final.
First they’ll be schlepping across Europe with Neutral Milk Hotel before a run of dates through America with The Clean and then Guided by Voices, before a victory lap around South America.
