Built to Spill tour the US this spring, new album out on Record Store Day

Hey, you guys see that Grand Budapest Hotel movie yet? I know, I know; it was all Oscar-y and whatnot, but I totally JUST GOT AROUND to seeing it yesterday. Downloaded the thing right off of Amazon, actually. Super easy. Weird to “download” a movie still, by the way. I am okay with “owning” most of my music that way, but damned if it still doesn’t seem sort of strange to buy a movie digitally and still feel like it’s “mine forever” or whatever. You know? Well, anyway, my girlfriend and I made a nice little afternoon out of watching it. It was pretty nice, and yeah… I’ll admit that I was a little skeptical about watching it (haven’t much cared for his past 3-4 movies at all, really), but I was pleasantly — if mildly — surprised at how much I liked it. Don’t call me a critic or anything — I generally just kinda like what I like and leave it at that — but I thought it looked really good and the score totally WAS super-cool. Everything was still all Wes Anderson-y, but it seemed to me like he’d really learned a lot about making a “bigger” feeling movie since he first tried it with Life Aquatic, if you get what I mean. Aaaaand… okay, great. We’re done. Sorry. Thanks for bearing with me.

Anyway, now that the content has been padded-out enough, I can just tell you that Built to Spill, who recently announced the release of their eighth studio album Untethered Moon in time for Record Store Day on April 18 via Warner Bros. (with CD and digital versions following on April 21), have tacked a string of headlining gigs and shows supporting Death Cab to the end of their previously listed run of shows.

You can pre-order the album at the band’s site (produced by Doug Martch and Sam Coomes of Quasi) right now, and if you do, you’ll get a copy of the single “Living Zoo”, which you also hear below. Here it comes, followed by the expanded list of shows. Rock & roll, everybody. Done and done.
