Attention indie filmmakers: a new source for all your indie soundtrack needs is about to emerge in the figure of Scottish one-man-orchestra-whizz-kid C Duncan. Making the kind of whimsical-yet-emotionally-poignant folk pop that seems to always perfectly set the mood for, say, an outsider college student finally getting that kiss from an equally misunderstood female counterpart or a sweeping panorama shot across an otherwise ordinary suburb save for one family that doesn’t quite fit in.
C Duncan’s debut album is set to be released by FatCat in 2015 after they discovered his talents via their demo submissions portal (which according to most record companies never happens). “Talents” is probably an understatement considering that Duncan is the son of two professional, classical musicians and studied not one but five instruments and then undertook compositional studies at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of
Scotland.
Luckily for us, Duncan has opted to shun the stuffy opera house halls for his comfortable one-bedroom flat in Glasgow where he meticulously crafted his forthcoming debut, playing every instrument himself and delicately laying down layer upon layer of pastoral pop beauty in the vein of fellow Scots Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura.
The debut single “For” will be released on November 24, followed by a summer release of the full album and then a lifetime of sync opportunities as we predict everyone from Wes Anderson to high-school film projecters will be itching to set their scenes to the sounds of C Duncan.
