C. Spencer Yeh Update: Burning Star Core Reissue, Yeh/Wiese 7-Inch, Live LP, and Collab with Tony Conrad and Michael F. Duch http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-10-01-bxc.jpg

Anyone who follows the music of C. Spencer Yeh knows how prolific he is, whether it be Burning Star Core records, solo violin tapes, or collaborative vinyl-only releases. Thus, it should be no surprise when I tell you now that Yeh has four brand new records out or coming out.

First, there is the CD reissue of a 2005 tour-only recording, Inside the Shadows, put out by Dominick Fernow of Prurient’s Hospital Productions. Second, there’s a “Compound” 7-inch from Yeh’s ongoing collaborative project with John Wiese, out on Von Archives. Third, there’s a Burning Star Core live recording, culled from over 60 live performances, due March 9 via No Quarter. And last, but certainly not least, is a single-take live recording, pairing Yeh on violin and piano with Tony Conrad on violin and harpsichord and Michael F. Duch on double bass. It’s called Musculus Trapezius and was recorded in the Sofiendberg Church of Oslo, Norway in February 2008 and then mastered by Jim O’Rourke. Check it out on Pica Disk.

Phew! Get them now before they’re gone and you have to resort to watching this guy in your free time.

Meanwhile, Yeh is playing a couple shows this weekend with Chris Corsano, Bill Horist, and Wally Shoup. They’ll rip your ears out, trust me.

Double Dagger Announce New EP, Mask, on Thrill Jockey

Baltimore art-punk boys Double Dagger have plans to spit out another release for Chicago label Thrill Jockey, only this time around, it’s in the form of an EP. Mask is the follow-up to 2009’s hair-gripping full-length More and, according to Thrill Jockey, follows along the same vein of semi-thrashy post-punky rock sorcery. The five-song extended player will be tossed on the shelves March 23.

The cover art for the release features some conceptual color-shifting limited-edition designs by band members Bruce Willen and Nolan Strals’ studio Post Typography. From the looks of it, this’ll definitely be a release worthy of snagging, if only for the cover art.

01. Imitation Is The Most Boring Form Of Flattery
02. Pillow Talk
03. Sheep In Wolf’s Clothing
04. Sleeping With The TV On
05. Song For S

Oil Up the Accordians and Hide the Dogs! Gogol Bordello Tour the Globe, Ready Upcoming Album for Spring Release

Though based more or less in New York, renowned Balkan boppers Gogol Bordello hail from all over the damn world. So it should come as no surprise that soon enough the group’s many members will leave behind whatever ramshackle roadside encampment or open-air bungalow they call home and hit the road. Following what is sure to be a raucous benefit for Tibet at Carnegie Hall, the band is heading down under for a handful of dates, only to come back to North America for more carnage. By the time they head to Europe in May, Gogol Bordello will have hopefully released their fifth studio album, Transcontinental Hustle. The Rick Rubin-produced record (!) doesn’t have an official drop date yet, but the All Powerful Press Release assures me that it should come out sometime in the spring.

Serena-Maneesh Tour North America, Prep S-M 2: Abyss in B Minor

Following a couple of shows in Nueva York recently — their first stateside appearance since way back in 2006 — Norwegian post-shoegazers Serena-Maneesh will be embarking on the ever-fashionable post-SXSW North American tour. This run through the US is, as you may have already guessed, in promotion of their upcoming second full-length, out March 23 through 4AD. The band has chosen to call their second baby S-M 2: Abyss in B Minor, and hopefully it will again leave melted eardrums and crying babies in its wake. If you want to get a taste of what’s ahead, you can scope out an MP3 for the track “I Just Want to See Your Face” here.

And if the whole audio medium doesn’t do much for you, check ‘em out at the Chocolate Grinder performing another new song, “Reprobate,” on Norwegian TV.

Brooklyn trio The Depreciation Guild will be supporting the band on all dates. Check it:

Ulrich Schnauss Remixin’ Like Mad for New Collection

It looks like Germany’s very own ambient/IDM producer Ulrich Schnauss has quite a few friends out there, and in high places. Not exactly a surprising fact, considering the man’s scope of musical virtuosity, his range across the genre spectrum, and let’s not forget his undeniable production skill. It’s hard not to like a musician who, regardless of what type of music you happen to subscribe to, will most likely grab your ear due to at least one element within his varied output. Thus, on March 15, a select few of these far-reaching friends will be allowing him to release remixes of some (in Schnauss’ opinion ALL) of their best tracks. Schnauss has decided to title this release (his first since 2008’s Stars EP) Missing Deadlines - Selected Remixes, and he’s been kind enough to provide us with a snippet of words describing the relevancy of this particular album:

“Essentially what makes me really happy about this album is the fact that it’s a selection of the – in my opinion – best mixes from a musical point of view, rather than a compilation of the commercially most successful ones, or the tracks that have the biggest names associated with them. In all cases, the original songs are already great in their own right – which made it really inspiring to work with them.”

Missing Deadlines is set for release on March 23 through UK label Rocket Girl. Given the aesthetic parallels he shares with many of these artists, I can definitely feel him giving these tracks a needed warm rubdown in this neverending winter season. Speaking of tracks:

01. Howling Bells - “Setting Sun”
02. A Sunny Day in Glasgow - “Ghost in the Graveyard”
03. Katharina Franck - “Faithful Friend”
04. Madrid - “Out to Sea”
05. Asobi Seksu - “Strawberries”
06. Dragons - “Remembrance”
07. Aus - “Halo”
08. Mahogany - “Supervitesse”
09. Lunz (Roedelius & Tim Story) - “Lunz”
10. Rachel Goswell - “Coastline”
11. High Violets - “Chinese Letter”
12. Mark Gardener - “Story of the Eye”
13. I’m Not a Gun - “Make Sense and Loose”
14. Mojave 3 - “Bluebird of Happiness”
