David Pajo leaves Interpol, makes the very un-rock 'n' roll decision to spend more time with his family. Boring.

After only about a year of service, David Pajo (who made his name as a member of Slint, Tortoise, and Zwan) has announced that he will be leaving Interpol immediately. Pajo, who decided that time with his family was more important than life on the road, joined Interpol last year after original bassist Carlos Dengler left the band and decided to spend more time doing nothing important.

The remaining members of the band and Pajo both composed and published public statements, which can be read on Interpol’s website, explaining the departure. Interpol assured fans that “We’re all friends. It’s just an Out-of-the-hotel, Into-the-home sorta thing. He’s going to be missed to be sure. Aside from being an exceptional musician, Pajo is a wonderful person to be around.”

After Pajo broke the news, he explained the separation: “I’ll be taking a break from touring to focus on family. There are no personal, artistic or health reasons — it’s really as simple as that!” Fans who might be afraid of a future without Pajo-music had their fears washed away like rain, as Pajo made sure to mention that he “will continue to record and perform music, with bands as well as solo, I just won’t be touring as much.”

Interpol have already tapped Brad Truax (who’s played with a whole bunch of bands ranging from Cass McCombs and Animal Collective to Soldiers of Fortune and Home) to be Pajo’s replacement. Truax’s first gig with the band will be the March 3 tour kick-off show in Hamburg, Germany; dates for that tour are below.
