Death Waltz to reissue original 1954 Godzilla soundtrack, breaks new ground by offering first-ever vinyl colored like a giant lizard's atomic breath

Been a long time since I’ve heard anything about that old Godzilla character! What’s he been up to? Still being a giant lizard? Knocking over buildings? Using his powerful atomic breath to battle Gamera? Oh, get ready to hear more about that atomic breath later in this story! Our good buddy Godzilla’s back in a brand-new form: vinyl! As told by FACT, the always-respectable Death Waltz label is putting out the first-ever vinyl release of Akira Ifukube’s soundtrack from Godzilla’s first adventure, the one that started it all, a little movie from 1954 called Godzilla (or Gojira I guess, whatever). So mark your calendars: Godzilla’s back on June 21. That’s the day this vinyl release comes out, for the record.

Just like how there are many iterations of Godzilla (remember Matthew Broderick), there are many iterations of this record. Many, in this case, being two. There’s the regular edition, which is printed on green vinyl. Then there’s the limited (ONLY 400 COPIES, FRIENDS) “Atomic Breath” edition printed on blue-and-white atomic vinyl. JUST. LIKE. GODZILLA’S. MIGHTY. ATOMIC. BREATH. THAT. HE. USES. IN. BATTLE.

Both versions of the record come with new artwork from Cheung Cheung Tat, along with liner notes written by Japanese cinema expert Jasper Chrat and Films on Wax editor Charlie Bridgen. Not interested in any of these fancy accoutrements? Well, the aforementioned FACT has the record streaming through SoundCloud. Just go listen to that, poor-o.
