Bachelorette announces tour, vows to stay single forever
By Annapocalypse on Mar 23 2010
Touring in support of 2009’s My Electric Family (Drag City), New Zealand’s Bachelorette (a.k.a. Annabel Alpers) not only has a US tour with Beach House to look forward to this spring, but she also has an announcement to make. It seems there have been some rumors lately that Bachelorette might be ready to settle down and get married, and then maybe have a couple of kids and move out to the ‘burbs. Not true, says Bachelorette. It seems Alpers is very happy with her band’s single status and will not be changing the name to “Bride,” “Wife,” or “Mother” anytime soon. To prove it, she’s going on a presumably free-spirited worldwide tour. Phew, a sigh of relief.

Outkast’s Big Boi signs to Def Jam for Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty; Raekwon, George Clinton guest
By Kid Midnight on Mar 23 2010
It looks like it’s not just an elaborate and long-winded title anymore, because it’s confirmed that Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty will finally be released via Def Jam Records. The rapper, one-half of Outkast, used his trusty Twitter account to tweet: “BREAKING NEWS!!!! It’s Official Big Boi signs solo album Deal with Def Jam!!!!! More details to come…” Moments later: “Ink is on paper.”
The album has been in the works for almost three years now and was originally scheduled for release at the end of 2008 on La Face/Zomba. Big Boi finished the album months ago and, while searching for an appropriate home, has been releasing singles from the album like they were coins at an arcade. We’ve already been graced with “Royal Flush,” which features Andre 3000 and Raekwon; “Sumthin’s Gotta Give” with Mary J. Blige; “Fo Yo Sorrows” with George Clinton and Too $hort; and most recently, “Shine Blockas” with Gucci Mane.
There’s been a lot of stops and starts with this project,” Boi informed Billboard. “I’ve just been trying to make sure we’ve got the right avenues and the right brains and mindsets together to get the marketing and promoting behind it. When you work on something for, like, two years and 11 months, it’s like your baby. You want to make sure that everybody has taken the project the way they’re supposed to be taking it and the set-up is right.”

Deerhoof curates Sonic City festival with pop, noise, classical, and improvisation acts
By Kid Midnight on Mar 23 2010
On April 17 - 18, at the Club de Kreun in Kortrijk, Belgium, Deerhoof will help kick off the third-annual Sonic City festival as both performer and curator. They jumped at their first chance to curate a festival and created a lineup described as “an honest, idiosyncratic mix of friends and admiration, with a strong focus on European artists.” The band is also hoping that attendees will be exposed to a couple new bands because they have applied this simple mantra for their band/performer picks: “Discovery is the central theme!”
The band goes on: “OK, so I know Kortrijk isn’t exactly the most well-known of European travel destinations. All the same, trust me, we are honored to be curating our very first festival, and we hope some of you can come. And what a lineup!!! My brain explodes trying to imagine all these artists in the same room. You will not see an assortment like this every day, no indeed!”
Indeed!

Megafaun announces U.S. headlining tour, prepares new mini-album for release this summer, wants you to stop asking them if they can get you Bon Iver tickets
By Nobodaddy on Mar 23 2010
Fractured back-porch art-folkies Megafaun are not about to sit around on their asses while contemporaries and former bandmates like Bon Iver, Bowerbirds, The Dodos, and Akron/Family get all the attention for playing “woodsy” psych-folk music. They’ll be damned if they’re not gonna get a bigger piece of that chunky, huckleberry pie in 2010!
With this in mind, they’ve decided to man-up and do their first headlining tour of the US this spring. But while they will continue to tour in support of the group’s well-received second album Gather, Form & Fly(TMT Review), the band is also throwing-down hardcore on this tour and promising live previews of a new release, a mini-album entitled Heretofore, which is due out via Hometapes this summer.
Brad Cook said of the new six-song, 36-minute recording: “I feel like it’s the best hooks and lyrics that we’ve done… but it also has the most far-reaching stuff we’ve ever put on a record.” And even though that’s what everybody in the history of everything has ever said about every new record they’ve ever made ever, don’t you just kinda want to believe the guy? Besides, at least they’re cranking out the folk jams at an insane pace (word is that there’s still a proper Megafaun “full-length” due out this fall!). Where’s YOUR new record, Fleet Foxes?!? Pffffft! That’s what I thought… chumps.
