Deerhoof to team with Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars, plan 7-inch series with Xiu Xiu and more

Deerhoof vs. Evil, Deerhoof’s Polyvinyl debut, isn’t even out yet (coming January 25, readers), but the band already has some new shit cooking on their wood-burning stove (yes, they’re that cool). According to Exclaim, Deerhoof are planning a 7-inch series that “will see each track from Deerhoof vs. Evil released as a collaborative single with another artist.” The artists will, according to drummer Greg Saunier, “create their own vocals over it, their own melody and lyrics and everything.” The first single with Physical Forms (featuring Busdriver) was released last year, and a new one with Xiu Xiu is already completed.

In other news, Deerhoof are working on a “big collaboration” with Congolese musicians Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars. “We’ve also got a big collaboration thing planned for this year that’s super exciting; I don’t even know if I’m allowed to talk about it yet. It’s very likely that there’s going to be a large collaborative group that will include the members of Deerhoof, as well as members of Konono No.1 and Kasai Allstars, that will hopefully be doing some large festival shows in the summer of 2011.”

Also lookout for vinyl reissues of their back catalog later this year, because we hear vinyl is doing okay for itself.
