Deutsche Grammophon bids adieu to Hamburg, moves to Berlin

Deutsche Grammophon is growing out its hair, cutting holes into some skinny jeans, and moving to Berlin! That’s right, like many artists before it, the classical record label is leaving its hometown of Hamburg behind and setting its sights on the thriving artistic wonderland known as Germany’s capital in pursuit of cheap rent and bitchin’ parties… or, well, to just be closer to its parent company, Universal Music Germany, and in the heart of the German classical music scene. The relocation will take place in summer 2011. Deutsche Grammophon — home of Anne-Sophie Mutter, Hilary Hahn, and Gustavo Dudamel — have been in Hamburg for more than 50 years.

Fun fact: Did you know that all of Faust’s classic albums from the 70s were engineered by Deutsche Grammophon’s own Kurt Graupner? It’s true!

Less-fun fact: Did you know that Sting’s last three albums have been released on Deutsche Grammophon? It’s true!
