True story. Just the other day, I was sitting at my local coffee shop, penning another great story for Tiny Mix Tapes. Yes, I pen my stories by hand. You do not? Sad. Back to the story at hand. While finishing up a story about the new No Age/Animal Collective/Daniel Lopatin/Flying Lotus collaborative LP (story forthcoming, just gotta get that last level of approval from the powers that be), I dropped the very pen I use to pen my stories. Before I could even lean down, a mysterious hand appeared from seemingly nowhere to return my pen to me. I looked up and, believe it or not, that very hand was connected to the body which connects to the masked head of DOOM. It was the greatest day of my life. Well, until I found out it was a DOOM impostor. Ugh, fart.
My heart was broken, but it can love again. Perhaps it can love DOOM again. All I would need is a follow-up to DOOM and Madlib’s landmark 2004 album Madvillainy, which Prefix reports may exist fairly soon. In an interview with HipHopDX, DOOM said that the new Madvillain record is nearly done. Well, to be accurate, he said this:
These niggas got some shit. J Rocc and Madlib? You know, these niggas got some shit that’s ill as hell that niggas never heard, that’s as ill as any of these old breaks but they just haven’t come to surface yet. Watch when you hear the new Madvillain record. It’s almost done.
There you are! A new Madvillain record may end up being a thing! Granted, there’s been talk of a new Madvillain record nearly as long as Madvillainy has been out. And Madlib was so frustrated with the lack of DOOM raps that he went and recorded new beats for the original Madvillain record. Still, exciting if true! And not the work of impostor! Oh gasp.
