Ducktails’ Matthew Mondanile is confusing the heck out of me right now. Let me see if I’ve got this down. First he releases his new record, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics (tmt review) on Woodsist that features a song called “Killin’ the Vibe” amongst its tracks. Then he teases us with his talk of vinyl and iTunes-only releases for his alternate version of “Killin’ the Vibe” that features vocals from Panda Bear. And now he’s asking us to fund the release of the “Killin’ the Vibe” 12-inch with a Kickstarter page so that he can release the vinyl on his own label. Man, that’s a lot of vibe-killing going on.

Looks like the plan is to still have the vinyl single feature four tunes: TWO alternate versions of “Killin’ the Vibe” (the Panda one and a live version featuring the British band Spectrals) and live versions of the songs “Sit Around with Ya” and “Couch Surfer.” According to Prefix, Mondanile is promising all the typical zany-ish prizes like ‘zines, handwritten notes, and “an exclusive Ducktails show” for people with briefcases full of unmarked cash to burn. But he also promises a “cassette tape of unreleased songs” to folks who kick-in a more reasonable $8 amount. Unfortunately for Mondanile, however, this begs the question: is any music that doesn’t feature Panda Bear really worth paying money for?
