Explosions in the Sky head back to Europe for first tour since 2008 (and to pick up pizza from that great place in Naples)

Explosions in the Sky head back to Europe for first tour since 2008 (and to pick up pizza from that great place in Naples) http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-10-11-explosions-in-the-sky.jpg

Do you live in Europe? Are you tired of hearing about new tours coming through town that don’t include Explosions in the Sky (who are your favorite band)? Do you wish you could go back in time to 2008 when Explosions in the Sky actually toured Europe? Well, put away your time machine, Dr. Doom, because Explosions in the Sky are heading back to Europe!

The tour, scheduled to start and end in May, will be the first headline shows that the Exploding boys will have played in either the UK or Europe in the last two years and are the first shows that the dudes have played anywhere since their four-city 10th anniversary shows way back in the bygone era of 2009.

The shows are being planned in advance of Explosions in the Sky’s yet-to-be-titled follow-up to 2007’s All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone (TMT Review), which is scheduled for release in spring 2011 through long-time home Temporary Residence Ltd. As is always the case, more details on both the new record and more dates are forthcoming and will probably be written about by me.

Explosions in the Sky European tour:

05.16.10 - Dublin, Ireland - Vicar St
05.17.10 - Manchester, UK - Academy
05.19.10 - London, UK - Roundhouse
05.20.10 - Paris, France - Bataclan

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger announce tour of the States; still have terrible name

You remember when we told you about The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger back in July, and you got really excited because, given that you obviously love John Lennon, anything his progeny puts forth (Sean Lennon here) is instant gold? Yeah, sure you do. Their debut album, Acoustic Sessions, which came out (as promised) October 26, was so good it didn’t even need a review from Tiny Mix Tapes, or press from anyone else. After all, it’s Sean effing Ono Lennon! He’s got more talent in his blood than the Brontë sisters combined, prose and poetry included. And that’s to say nothing of bandmate Charlotte Kemp Muhl.

Maybe these two aren’t so pleased with the public’s reaction, be it an enthused spin-off of Beatlemania or a lackluster shrug. Well, the GOASTT’s chance to really get in the limelight is now, and they’re grabbing the bull by the horns this January, when they will embark on their first tour of the US. “After all the entropy, we look like black-and-white movies,” Sean plaintively croons in “Dark Water/White Noise.” Well… black-and-white movies can be exciting, right (even if they don’t make for good lyrics)?

Minks bring blissful sadness to Captured Tracks debut album in January

If the words ‘Cure,’ ‘funeral,’ or ‘sad’ provoke an almost Pavlovian response in you, well, you might want to hide your wallet before reading the following sentence about Captured Tracks recording artist Minks. Are you ready? This is from a Fader review of New York band Minks’ first 7-inch single, “Funeral Party.” The magazine says the 7-inch sounds “as if Robert Smith gave birth to a baby, and the baby was actually a cassette of Cure demos that had a lot more staying power than actual Cure demos.”

Drool drool bats drool… oh, right! Where was I? Anyway. Minks returned with the single “Ophelia,” which I’m told “balance(s) the feelings of joy and sadness.” I believe this means the group can make you sad, but not, say, ending-of-a-Lars-Von-Trier-movie-ohhhhh-my-Goooood-I-just-want-a-whiskey-or-a-kitten-or-ANYTHING-BUT-THIS sad. And now Minks have crafted their debut album, By the Hedge, set for a January 11 release on Captured Tracks. This makes me happy, an oh-thank-God-this-Lars-Von-Trier-movie-is-over-and-I’m-still-alive-in-spite-of-it-all happy.

By the Hedge tracklisting:

01. Kusmi
02. Out of Tune
03. Life at Dusk
04. Indian Ocean
05. Funeral Song
06. Our Ritual
07. Cemetary Rain
08. Bruises
09. Boys Run Wild
10. Ophelia
11. Juniper
12. Arboretum Dogs

The Ex follow up album announcement with North American tour announcement; yes, they’re still around

If you ever have a moment in which you feel that your advancing age is having a preventative effect towards your goals, feelings of youthfulness, sex appeal, etc., then you should probably take a minute and contemplate Dutch punk band The Ex. These dudes have been doing their thing for roughly 30 years and have made over 120 albums, and unlike the current slew of bands celebrating reunions after 20 separation years, The Ex haven’t missed a beat, or a tour, or an opportunity for change. Not only that, they still got the rick in ‘em. So if you feel old age is a cause for apathy, stop making excuses, or just stop being old.

With that said, The Ex are releasing their 123rd album on January 25. The release is titled Catch My Shoe and it will be released by the band via their Ex Records imprint. This’ll be their first record featuring vocalist Arnold de Boer from the one-man project Zea. So, as to expect from The Ex, don’t expect anything. More timely and importantly for us folks stateside, The Ex will be touring through some of the bigger cities come March. If I were you, or if I were myself for that matter, I would catch these guys in action. Cause you never know when they might keel over.

03.08.11 - Chicago, IL - Lincoln Hall
03.10.11 - New York, NY - Le Poisson Rouge
03.11.11 - Allston, MA - Brighton Music Hall
03.12.11 - Washington, DC - Black Cat
03.13.11 - Philadelphia, PA - First Unitarian Church
03.15.11 - Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge
03.16.11 - Seattle, WA - The Vera Project at Seattle Centre
03.17.11 - San Francisco, CA - Bottom of the Hill
03.18.11 - Los Angeles, CA - The Satellite

Lauryn Hill is bored of hiding out, announces five random tour dates to keep herself busy

Being a recluse musician is a tough job. You can’t go out in public, never play shows, ignore your urge to release new music, and generally hide out in your house until your stockpile of groceries and toliet paper runs out. After stocking up on some groceries over the summer when she played the Rock The Bells festival and several benefits shows after that, it appears that Lauryn Hill is in need of a new pack of Charmin Ultra Strong and maybe some fresh fruit, because she’s announced five random shows in Boston, New York, and Miami this winter. If you live in either of these three cities, it’s probably a good idea to see her perform before goes back into hiding again.

Oh, and word on the street is that a new album is due soon. We’ll keep you posted.

12.20.10 - Boston, MA - Wilbur Theatre
12.28.10 - Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
01.01.11 - New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
03.19.11 - Miami, FL - Jazz In The Gardens Festival
