The Family Stone lures Sly to BB King's With Promise of Hot Wings, Coke...

That's cocaine folks.

But no matter how they get him there, The Brooklyn Vegan is reporting that funk's groundhog will once again come out of hiding for a reunion show December 7 at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York City.

Don't book your flights just yet. So far, December 7 remains blank on the club's show calendar, and the person I talked to at B.B. King knew nothing about it. And given Sly's track record of not showing up, leaving early, and basically seeming confused at all times, travelers may want to wait on some solid info before booking that Fantasy Sly & The Family Stone Second Honeymoon package. Or (and this is my plan) go ahead and buy those nonrefundable tickets for a whole weekend in New York -- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday -- and you won't care if Sly shows up Friday or not.

Now, I know Sly & The Family Stone revolutionized socially conscious, porridge-thick funk and panty-peeling, date-capping slow jams. And it would be incredible if Sly held it together until December AND actually got up on stage and performed an entire show.

But, if he flakes out, you had the foresight to buy tickets for the entire weekend and you can still catch THREE SETS OF........... AIR SUPPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell. Yes. Air Supply actually is on B.B . King's show schedule and booked for 8 PM and 10 PM December 8, and 8 PM December 9. Thank your travel agent, thank me, thank Sly's comeback show rumor for tipping you to these hot shows, but you'll be thanking God during all three of those "All Out of Love" encores.

Since your entire weekend will be centered around the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill, you'll probably have a least a couple meals at the adjacent Lucille's Grill restaurant. Here is what I'd order based entirely on looking at a PDF of the menu online:

Appetizer: artisanal cheese selection

Entree: whole Florida red snapper with a lemon/thyme infusion

Dessert: warm pecan pie with chantilly cream

Major Labels Pat Themselves on the Back for Learning What Usenet Is in 2007, Sue Usenet

Major labels have filed a collective lawsuit against Usenet.com, the most common window for people to use the approximately 15-year-old usenet service. The suit, according to Billboard, “alleges that [usenet] enables and encourages its customers to reproduce and distribute millions of the labels' recordings without permission.”

The Usenet.com proprietors could not be reached for comment, but I’m sure they’ll settle out of court for their life savings like everyone else.

Here are some jokes that could follow:

- Next on the chopping block: Gopher

- It looks like someone from the record industry has been reading the 1994 edition of Internet for Dummies!

- The labels went on to ask usenet if they’d seen Terminator 2 and whether or not they’d checked out this new thing called lasertag.

- Alt.binaries.thepartyisover.aw.comeon

- Just kidding, there is no central server of usenet, so this accomplishes nothing.

- Alt.binaries.boners

- That’s the spirit.

Ex-Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci Frontman Euros Childs and Ex-Clean Lynchpin David Kilgour to Co-Headline U.S. Tour; If Unsuccessful, Will Change First and Last Names to “Destiny’s” and “Beckham” Respectively

During a vacation to the UK about a decade ago, my friend and I were stuck in the sweet dilemma of having to spend three days “off” in either Ireland or Wales. The mother of a friend we were staying with decided to put her two pence in and bluntly stated, “Go to Ireland. They’re all crazy in Wales.” Naturally, that comment made us want to head to Wales ASAP. Alas, fate intercepted us (in the form of free accommodation) and forced our hands and legs to Ireland to spend the days away in a beautiful East Coast town. We had no complaints, but we wished we could have visited the country of our musical heroes at the time, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.

I managed to literally cross paths with Gorky’s singer Euros Childs during that same trip when I walked by him at a festival in Brighton and commented on his Palace t-shirt. He stared blankly through me, no doubt due to the inebriated Canadian hick drawl I possess even when not inebriated (though I was INEBRIATED then). Ah, but that was then and this is now, and now Childs is performing solo and is set to embark on a co-headlining tour of the U.S. with stellar singer-songwriter David Kilgour.

Expect to hear gems from Childs off his latest album, The Miracle Inn (out now on Wichita Recordings) and from Kilgour, who is touring in support of The Far Now, which came out earlier this year on Merge. The always excellent Kilgour will treat lucky ducks to shows that will feature, for the first time on U.S. soil, his full backing band The Heavy Eights. Catch the New Zealand-lubber and the Welshist rarebit at the following dates (worst nationality puns ever...):
10.27.07 - Los Angeles, CA - The Echo *

OiNK Admin Released From Custody; BBC Gets A Bunch of Shit Wrong

Dear TMT Readers,

As everyone knows by now, your favorite torrent site was shut down by some assholes and its admin was arrested. However, this morning brings news from Torrent blog TorrentFreak that the OiNK admin has been released from custody and is back at his flat where he supposedly "made hundreds of thousands of pounds" off of OiNK from "180,000 members [with paid] subscriptions" by "illegally downloading music onto his website."

It's not known if the feds have tried prosecuting any of the users, leakers, or donors to the site yet, but we can only hope that won't be the case.

P.S. All the quotes are from the BBC News report found here.

P.P.S. All the quotes are misinformed and untrue.

Love,

Scout

Underworld Cancels Remainder of European Tour

Underworld have canceled the rest of their European tour due to "severe illness in the band." A total of 10 shows have been canceled, including an appearance at the I Love Techno festival in Belgium. The shows were in support of the group's first album in five years, Oblivion With Bells, which was released last week on Side One Recordings (yes, the same label rumored to be releasing Radiohead's In Rainbows, which we reported earlier this month).

No announcements have yet been made about rescheduling the shows. Keep an eye on Underworld's MySpace for further developments. TMT wishes them the best!
