When one star falls (Jeb Bush), another star appears in the sky to shine brightly. That star is Gold Panda (Derwin Schlecker), and now this ball of gas sparks with a new release, Good Luck and Do Your Best, coming out May 27 on City Slang. As evident on the lead single and video “Time Eater,” Derwin documents his time in Japan on this album with photographer Laura Lewis, gathering field recordings and visuals.
Excited about some new Gold Panda tunes, I told my mom she should come with me to see his performance at DGTL Fest in Amsterdam. The next day, I saw my mom wearing a Panda Express t-shirt, and I quickly realized she assumed we were going to the Netherlands to eat at a Chinese-American chain restaurant. Long story short, we just went to the Panda Express at the Hornsbury mall. I’m still excited about new Gold Panda music though.
