Hanz disregards other shapes, preps debut LP Reducer on Tri Angle

It’s a suggestion of novelty if you Google the birth name of an artist and one of the first few results is a link to that person’s LinkedIn profile, created un-ironically, presumably, as a means of networking within the professional world. Fast-forward a couple of years from now, and we may be overloaded with praising reviews and videos of live performances, as the Georgia-born but North Carolina-residing producer Hanz (Brandon Juhans) is all set to re-release his debut full-length Reducer — which was self-released last year and one of our favorite releases of the third quarter — on the well-respected Tri Angle. Forget the prospect of suits and brunch-time cold-calling; Juhans is literally on the verge of hitting the big city (for Tri Angle’s 5th anniversary event) while figuratively popping bottles of Cristal and showering Uber drivers with benjis! It’s all laid-back from here, I naively imagine.

You can listen to the new single “Capsule” below, and even without prior acquaintance, you might be able to guess the skill set. Hanz’s prior work and feature on a Björk podcast has some intriguing sample usage, while the aforementioned single below possibly recalls a West Coast rap track from the early 90s. Who can describe the whole of the track itself, though? I don’t even!

Reducer is due out soon. Might want to keep an eye on the Tri Angle website.
