A Hawk And A Hacksaw Plan on Making Fans Squeal Like Piggies on North American Délivrance Tour
Last we heard from A Hawk And A Hacksaw, they were talking up their new album on The Leaf Label, Délivrance. Now the duo is taking the news one step further and have announced a North American tour in support of the new record, which was released on August 25, and is described by me as “very good and entertaining and if you like Beirut or Eastern Europe you should listen to it.”
The band also recently completed an extensive European tour, as well as supporting slots for Wilco and Andrew Bird and a handful of shows at SXSW. It is being reported that at these shows the audience members were reportedly “entertained” and “pleased.”
Besides the new tour and the new album, AHAAH have also made live videos for tracks “I Am Not A Gambling Man” and “The Man Who Sold His Beard,” directed by John Longmire and shot in the band’s home of New Mexico. Check the videos here.

White Mice Ready Their Heaviest, Noisiest, Ugliest, Most Beautiful Album Yet

Remember when Black Dice used to thrash? Remember when they used to scare the shit out of hipster kids? Well, now hipster kids adore them, right? That's why, according to the TMT Investigation Department, they secretly decided to start a side project and wear masks, switching their name around a bit to form White Mice! They now wear bloody, mutated mouse heads and bloody lab coats while playing sludgy noise rock to scare the shit outta hipster kids once again!
Fine, maybe not, but damn ya gotta admit their names are pretty similar. Once you've admitted that, here's some info you need to know: White Mice's Ganjohovahdose is their fourth full-length record and is coming out on the 20 Buck Spin label. The label proclaims this one to be the "heaviest, noisiest, ugliest, most beautiful sound they've achieved yet." It "stands as a testament in praise of lord Cheezus for bestowing this deadly ‘conncocktion’ of music, art, visuals, noise, and words onto an unsuspecting and dangerously unprepared public, on its October 20 release."
Sounds pretty cool right? Providence, RISD, Lightning Bolt, Load Records! Alright, now go! Go buy their records!

Death, The Jesus Lizard, GZA/Genius, Times New Viking, Yeasayer, and OMG So Much More to Rock Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest
FINALLY a festival that promises fun, and lots of it! In its fourth year, the Austin, TX festival that is neither SXSW nor Austin City Limits is packing a serious one-two punch of good times and enjoyment. Fun Fun Fun Fest takes over the dusty utopia of downtown Austin’s Waterloo Park for two action-packed days (November 7-8) full of a rad mix of up-and-coming acts and established performers. Spanning the indie gamut from The Jesus Lizard to GZA/Genius (performing Liquid Swords again to Crystal Castles, Fun Fun Fun Fest also plays host to some promising Austin-area acts like The Strange Boys and Shearwater, as well as some serious comedy troupes.
The lineup is intense, so peruse carefully. You wouldn’t want to miss a potential chance to hear Danzig guide you through his personal library, nor the much-buzzed-about 1970s Detroit proto-punks Death.
Lineup in no real logical order:
Ratatat, of Montreal, Crystal Castles, Les Savy Fav, Yeasayer, Mission Of Burma, Lucero, Why?, Broadcast, Atlas Sound, Death (Detroit), No Age, Red Sparowes, Shonen Knife, Fuck Buttons, Times New Viking, This Will Destroy You, Crystal Antlers, Growing, Black and White Years, Royal Bangs, The Laughing, The Jesus Lizard, Danzig, Gorilla Biscuits, Face to Face, Fucked Up, 7 Seconds, D.R.I., Torches, Melt Banana, Flipper, Coalesce, Riverboat Gamblers, Street Dogs, Russian Circles, Night Marchers, Metallagher, Youth Brigade, Mika Miko, All Leather, Young Widows, Coliseum, Underground Railroad to Candyland, Off With Their Heads, Reign Supreme, Rat King, Pack of Wolves, Roller, The Cool Kids, The Pharcyde, GZA/Genius, Kid Sister, Baruka Som Sistema, DJ Numark (Jurassic 5), HEALTH, Neon Indian, MC Chris, Ssion, Alaska in Winter, Vega, Foot Patrol, Astronautalis, Car Stereo (Wars), The DJ Melee, Sugar & Gold, LAX, Peligrosa DJs, Beta Player, Destroyer, The Whitest Kids You Know Sketch Comedy Troupe, Brian Posehn, The King Khan & BBQ Show, Shearwater, Todd Barry, Dead Confederate, Nick Thune, Harlem, Josh Fadem, The Strange Boys, Hannibal Burress, James Husband (of Montreal), Brendan Walsh, Cedric Burnside & Lightning Malcolm, Chelsea Peretti, Bankrupt and the Borrowers, Altercation Comedy Hour, Moonlight Towers, Low Line Caller, New Movement Comedy Group, AND MORE!
Lyrics Websites Targeted for Infringement
Major labels have been going after illegal downloaders for several years now, so it makes sense that they’re growing a bit bored chasing down 15 year olds with premium Rapidshare accounts. To make things more interesting, Peermusic, Warner Music’s Warner/Chappell, and Bug Music have decided to go after something else entirely: the unlicensed use of lyrics.
The three companies have launched lawsuits against two unlicensed lyric websites, LiveUniverse and Motive Force LLC, which share song lyrics for profit. David Israelite, boss for the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), agreed with the lawsuit in an interview with Billboard: “These sites are profiting on the backs of songwriters. It is unfortunate that copyright holders must so frequently divert energies to protect their rights to license and distribute their works. However, the demand for music prompts a seemingly endless stream of illegal business models.”
Let’s Hear It for Verbs! Do Make Say Think Announce New LP, Tour
Do Make Say Think love verbs. Without verbs, they wouldn’t have a name. Instead of being Do Make Say Think, they’d be something like The Palettes. Or, since they’re a post-rock band, they’d probably be Eons Within The Night or Manatee or something along those lines. Jeez, now I love verbs more than I ever knew.
As it turns out, without verbs, Do Make Say Think’s new record, Other Truths, wouldn’t have any song titles either. You see, this new album, out October 20 on Constellation, has four tracks, named “Do,” “Make,” “Say,” and “Think.” Without these precious, precious verbs, Other Truths would resemble a circa-2002 Sigur Rós record. Personally, I’d rather this record not resemble a circa-2002 Sigur Rós record.
That said, Other Truths will surely resemble a Sigur Rós record in one way: vocals! The generally instrumental crew will let some vibrations of human vocal chords share space with their massive guitar chords vibrations. While this won’t be the first time vocals have made their way into the band’s post-rock epics, this time it is courtesy of some special guests in the form of Akron/Family and Lullabye Arkestra.
Do Make Say Think will fill the dates following Other Truths' release by conducting a lengthy European tour, followed by a shorter string of North American dates. No word on whether members of Akron/Family or Lullabye Arkestra will take part in any of the live dates.
Other Truths tracklist:
1. Do
2. Make
3. Say
4. Think

Thom Yorke to Perform Song about Global Warming in Upcoming Film, To Swallow Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Noam Chomsky fan, vegan, Free Tibet supporter, and — oh yes — Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke is once again lending his talents to fight global warming. Yorke has signed on to contribute an acoustic version of the title track to the “eco docudrama” The Age of Stupid. But this won’t be just any old song floating over the end of the credits and cut-and-pasted into the movie trailer. Instead, Yorke will be participating in a post-film live discussion, along with X-Files star Gillian Anderson, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and field scientists located in New York, the Himalayas, and the depths of an Indonesian rainforest.
The special event is being billed as The Age of Stupid LIVE from New York and will take place on September 21 in 444 movie theaters across the United States. In case you’re wondering exactly what an "eco docudrama" is, the concept features Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite as a global archivist living several decades from now, looking back on what could’ve been done to save the earth from its circa 2055 devastation. Heavy stuff, right? But one would assume/hope inspiring as well. Plus, who would want to miss the promised “green carpet procession,” during which guests will arrive via bicycle, solar car, rickshaw, and sailboats?
Oh, and Yorke is supposedly releasing a 12-inch with a couple new tunes later this month via ATO/TBD Records. So be on the lookout.
Yo La Tengo Support Popular Songs with Inevitably Popular Tour
Yo La Tengo are pretty presumptuous. Their new album, out September 8 on Matador, is called Popular Songs, but what if it just isn’t? What if every song on the album is universally panned? Granted, it probably won’t be. Yo La Tengo are running on a good 20 years of critical acclaim, so I guess they have reason to be confident.
Another thing Yo La Tengo can be confident about: their upcoming fall tour. Even if nobody likes Popular Songs, there are certainly enough people out there who would want to see Ira, Georgia, and James run through “Cherry Chapstick” and “Sugarcube.” And plenty of people will get the chance to see just that, both in North America throughout September and October and across Europe in November. Go on, see them in multiple countries. It should be a great time for the most popular kids in indie rock school.

Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio To Set Out On North American Tour
Kyp Malone, singer/guitarist/serious beard of TV on the Radio, is set to head out on a North American tour this fall in support of his debut solo project Rain Machine, available September 22 via ANTI- Records. The first single is called “Give Blood,” and it’s kind of a jam, but it mostly reminds me that I can’t give blood. Sorry dude. I tried to give blood once a few years back, and after I filled out all my paperwork, the nurse told me “Sorry, you can’t give blood because you were born and lived overseas.” When I asked her when I could eventually give blood (thinking I'd be good to go after more time has passed), she said, and I quote, “Never. We don’t take chances with BRAIN DISEASE.”* Thanks BITCH.

Dirty Projectors Announce Fall Tourdates; Longstreth Has Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Blues

It’s the little things in life that bring Dave Longstreth, frontman for the Dirty Projectors, great joy. For every tour, Longstreth crosses his fingers in hopes that the band's tour manager will book a stop in Temecula, CA so he can play “Temecula Sunrise” in its namesake city. Unfortunately, the band's upcoming tour goes from San Diego to San Francisco without any stops in between. Of course, this is why we should all watch the fuck out, because it's when the little things go wrong that Dave gets fucking pissed.
Anyway: to hear “Temecula Sunrise” and other songs live from Dirty P’s new album, Bitte Orca (TMT Review), be sure to check out the tour when it hits your city. Unless you live in Temecula.

Wavves Goes On Tour + Nathan "No We're Not Done Yet" Williams (a.k.a. Wavves) Teams Up And Records With Zach "I Broke My Drumset" Hill (a.k.a. That Dude From Hella)
It seems like all has been forgotten since the Wavves debacle at Primavera fest. In case you forgot to watch the video again this morning, Wavves main man Nathan Williams freaked out on the sound guy and drummer Ryan Ulsh walked off stage while Williams yelled "Come back here, motherfucker, we're not done yet!" For a few days, it was up in the air whether or not Williams could continue, especially after European dates were being canceled.
Well, the band still exists and Ulsh still plays in the band. In fact, Williams has also made a friend of Zach Hill (Hella, Nervous Cop, CHLL PLL), and the two have started playing and recording together. It is unknown whether or not this will come out as Wavves or a brand new project, but there has been talks of doing a full-length LP together. Two tracks have been made available so far, but you'll have to go visit Pitchfork to check them out: click here for "Cool Jumper" and here for a live video of the track "Hula Hoop."
In September, Wavves will hit the road for a month-long tour across the U.S. They will be joined by Ganglians, who have a new hyped-up album on Woodsist/Weird Forest. Check it:

How Does It Feel, To Be On Your Own, With No Direction Home: Bob Dylan to Release Christmas LP, to Voice GPS System?
Imagine the surprise and delight on Grandma’s face when she opens that special CD-shaped gift below the Christmas tree this year. Of course, it’s obviously a CD, but which one? Mannheim Steamroller? Trans-Siberian Orchestra? Or… none of the above? Boy will she be impressed when she opens that little package to find none other than THE BRAND NEW BOB DYLAN CHRISTMAS CD!!!! That’s right, just in time for the holidays, the legendary songsman is releasing Christmas in the Heart to spread a little good ol' fashioned holiday cheer among you and yours. Featuring holiday classics like “Winter Wonderland” and “Here Comes Santa Claus,” sales of the album will benefit the United States’ biggest domestic hunger-relief charity, Feeding America, as well as other hunger organizations around the globe. Christmas in the Heart comes out October 13 via Columbia Records.
In other exciting, potentially not real Dylan-related news, the man himself told listeners to his Theme Time Radio Hour that he is in talks to be the voice of a GPS navigator. But don’t take it from me. Take it from Bob!
I am talking to a couple of car companies about being the voice of their GPS system. I think it would be good if you are looking for directions and hear my voice saying something like: “Left at the next street, no a right - you know what? Just go straight.” I probably shouldn’t do it because whichever way I go I always end up at one place: Lonely Avenue.
If this were to happen, I would totally shill out for a GPS device. What could be more soothing than — while in the midst of traffic or being totally lost on a lonely desert highway — to hear the voice of Mr. Dylan? Much more comforting than, say, Henry Rollins or like Nick Cave.
