Hotflush releases new EP from Auden, starts poetry producer trend

The illustrious Hotflush label — run by British nautical enthusiast Scuba a.k.a. Paul Rose — has announced its latest coup in Auden, an upstart UK producer with a debut dropping later this month. His four-track Auden EP covers a range of moody ambience, big-room dub techno, a slow-burning acid number, and tense two-step vibes, all filtered through the new producer’s bleak sensibility. Standout cut “Flux” is functionally mixed for a huge club setting, but its swinging groove and intricate rhythmic patters are atypical for such a seemingly frank slab of techno.

Very little is known about Auden so far, besides the press release deeming him “a fresh voice in UK techno” with “range and dynamics.” That is either the most deliberately coy or generic description of electronic music I’ve ever heard. Until we learn more, Auden’s titular EP will be released on July 28, and a sampling of the four songs can be found below. Mark my words, it won’t be long before we see a hardcore jungle record from a guy named Whitman.

Auden EP tracklist:

01. Trip to Fade
02. Flux
03. Whispers
04. Tension
